Guest guest
Hi Juliana, Yeah, oops. Sorry. Hi Janna, I had the great good fortune of having a brother who is a doctor so I know just how little doctors actually "know". We all need to be proactive in our own health care. So read all you can, and pick a good doctor - cause they don't have that much time to keep up on the literature and that literature is often sponsored by the people selling the drug. I've long ago thrown away my literature on Fosamax and Actonel. I was trained as a lawyer so Fine Print (the smaller the better) is what I tend to read first. And the fine print on most pharmaceuticals (unfortunately) tends to bode very ill for livers. There is actually a book that lists pharmaceuticals and the corresponding diseases they exacerbate or even create! I tried to get my hands on it, but it's out of print. I guess that as a society we are really not interested in side effects, just give us a quickie solution. Oh well. What I mean to say is that sometimes, even the worst stuff works well for some people. Hopefully it will for you. But I've heard of way too many "common" drugs that have had to be pulled after 10-15 years for causing too much devastation. I believe that either Fosamax or Actonel (if not both) were actually approved faster than normal. That makes me nervous. We won't know what these drugs really do for another decade and you have to take it DAILY. Also, a doctor (but we don't know what he really knows) said that these drugs inhibit the body breaking down bone - so, yes, you have more bone, but you have more of the kind of bone that is weaker and ready to be discarded anyway. Not new bone. That's what I was told. And I THINK that's what I read, but I don't have the paperwork anymore. Either way, study the subject yourself. It is time well worth spending. I have NOT been diagnosed with Osteoporosis so I feel impartial when reading this stuff. But I'm as prone to mistakes as anyone else. Good luck!
