Guest guest
Have Gayatri Mantra and Gayatri Devi been discussed here before?. Also, the triumverate Gayatri, Sivitri, and Saraswati (as representing Surya): has this been discussed on ? If so, can anyone direct me to where (message number or dates) I might pick up on this discussion in the archives? Also, what about Saranyu, wife of Surya and Goddess of the Dawn? Can anyone direct me to more info on Saranyu? I only saw one reference to this Goddess and it came up by randomn on a site that listed Hindu Goddesses, but I can't find any other reference to her on an internet search. The one site that listed her as a Goddess in Hinduism, did not give any further info other than to say She is wife of Surya and Goddess of the Dawn. Here are some interesting links I found on Gayatri (also Savitri). I have included a brief excerpt from a few of the links: 1) _www.vedah.com/org/literature/PDFs/Sandhya_Mantras.pdf_ (http://www.vedah.com/org/literature/PDFs/Sandhya_Mantras.pdf) The link is an e-book called "Sandhya_Mantras" which is put out by the "Sri Aurobindo Kapala Shastry Institute of Vedic Culture." It is well worth downloading. 2) _http://www.poetseers.org/the_poetseers/sri_aurobindo/sav_ (http://www.poetseers.org/the_poetseers/sri_aurobindo/sav) this is an article about Savitri in Hindu Mythology 3) this is an excerpt of poetry on Savitri by Sri Aurobindo, from: _http://www.poetseers.org/the_poetseers/sri_aurobindo/sav/page_314_ (http://www.poetseers.org/the_poetseers/sri_aurobindo/sav/page_314) The spirit's alchemist energy is hers; She is the golden bridge, the wonderful fire. The luminous heart of the Unknown is she, A power of silence in the depths of God; She is the Force, the inevitable Word, The magnet of our difficult ascent, The Sun from which we kindle all our suns, The Light that leans from the unrealised Vasts, The joy that beckons from the impossible, The Might of all that never yet came down. All Nature dumbly calls to her alone To heal with her feet the aching throb of life And break the seals on the dim soul of man And kindle her fire in the closed heart of things. All here shall be one day her sweetness' home, All contraries prepare her harmony; Towards her our knowledge climbs, our passion gropes; In her miraculous rapture we shall dwell, Her clasp shall turn to ecstasy our pain. Our self shall be one self with all through her. 4) _http://www.saibaba.ws/teachings/gayatrimantra.htm_ (http://www.saibaba.ws/teachings/gayatrimantra.htm) Who is this Gayatri? She is the personified unity of the triumvirate divinity - Gayatri, Savitri and Saraswathi. Gayatri is also known as the five faced divinity. The first face signifies Om. The second is Bhur Bhuvah Suvah. Thath Savithur Varenyam is the third face. Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi is the fourth face. Dheeyo Yo Nah Prachodayath is the fifth face. This is the Pancha Mukhi Swaroopam, the five-faced divinity. From these five faces emanate the five life forces, Pancha Pranas. [....] 5) _http://www.brahminworld.com/bw8.htm_ (http://www.brahminworld.com/bw8.htm) It is considered the sacred duty of Brahmins, to recite this mantra [....] The full verse is as follows. ˜Om Bhoohu, Om Bhuvaha, Om Swaha, Om Mahaha, Om Janaha, Om Tapaha Om Satyam II Om tat Savitar varenyam, Bhargo devasya dheemahi, dhio yonah Prachodayat II Om Apo Jyothiraso Amritam Brahma Bhur Buvah Suvar Om The significance of this mantra transcends all religions and creeds, [....] The god of the Gayatri mantra is Savitrâ a solar deity, [....] The Gayatri mantra is addressed to Sun in the form of ˜Savitrâ. Gayatri is also the goddess of this mantra manifesting in three forms. In the mornings she is called Gayatri, at noon she is Savitri, and in the evenings she is called Saraswathi. There are numerous interpretations of what is meant by this mantra, ranging from simple to the elaborate. [....] [One] interpretation of the Gayatri mantra is: " We meditate on the divine light of Savitr, which dominates the Earth, the Sky and the Heaven. Let it stimulate our thoughts."
