Guest guest
India is great, no doubt, but Ireland is the home of the “Green Party”. ! The list of great achievements by Irish is well, pathetic. I think that’s our thing...nobody can blame us for anything! I saw a list recently of “Scottish Pride” stuff- apparently Scots invented everything that is currently ailing us, such as phones and tv’s... I think poverty and limited space increase academic achievements like the kind we see from India and Asia...people want a better life, so they really stick to their studies. Whereas in America, teenagers can actually have a fun life with their friends more...and can have things and money too...so they don’t worry so much about education, plus, fact is, you can’t get a job here just because you have a degree, partly because the Indians and Asians are so damn good at all that tech stuff, due to being in dinky rooms with nowhere to go (except into their heads for their studies). Ah life. The power flows west, and is currently almost back to the east. The power started in the east, in India, Egypt etc...then flowed west, gradually across to Rome, then Europe, then to America, and next, it goes to China and India, again... Guest guest
Dear Vaidun, Interesting facts. But, there arises the question that were all these mathematical achievements and development of civilization in India could have happenned in a few thousand years, as the western historians want the world to believe. Guest guest
Dear Rick, Teenagers in India too have fun. The youth here much like youth in US. But, Indian society has always valued education above everything else. It is a way of life here. The competition in job market in India is much greater than that in US. In Delhi, I am amazed to see teenagers going to coaching classes after schools, only to get as high marks as possible. Getting above 90 percent marks at high school level is a craze here. With around 70 percent literacy rate, a population like India has become a hub of brainpower. But, there is no social security schemes here and no unemployment allowances. The only way to survive is to study well and get a good job. Power is shifting back to the east. But, power without wisdom, knowledge and education is short lived. I would like to live in a world where people understand their responsibilities and respect life above everything else, including religion. Guest guest
Dear Ashutosh, If we look around, the rate of progress is ASTONISHING. A couple of years ago I was in Brisbane, one of Australia's newest, thriving, bustling, metropolitan cities. A thought struck me then: just a little over a hundred years ago, this whole area was a complete wilderness!!!! Let's take a look at another wonder. Less than a century ago, man had never flown in a heavier-than-air craft. One of the leading scientists of that time scoffed at the idea and said, "man can never fly". Within a short span of less than a 100 years, see where aviation is today. UNBELIEVABLE. Another example: the evolution of the home computer over the last 13 years is simply UNIMAGINABLE. If I compare my first "desktop" that I bought in 1992 with the one I just bought last month, the difference is ASTRONOMICAL. The progress is not linear but logrithimic. At this rate of progression, where will mankind be, one thousand years from now? It is MIND BOGGLING. With this background, would it be correct to say, "a FEW THOUSAND years is too small a period"? Guest guest
Dear Vaidun, All the developments that we see has occurred in the last two centuries only. But, thousands of years ago, the development process was slow. You can imagine how long humans had only bows and arrows as weapons. Guest guest
Dear Vaidun, No explanation will suffice for a mind which refuses to think. Anyway, I will give some examples. Bhagirath, an ancestor of Rama, is considered the one who brought Ganga to the Mrityulok. Earlier, it flowed through heavens only. We can interpret it in this way. Ganga flowed through himalays only and ended up either in some other river like brahmputra or went underground which was called patal-ganga. Mrityulok is the plains of India comprising of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal. It was not possible to take the ashes of a thousand sons of King Sagar to ganga, so, many attempts were made to channelise Ganga waters into the plains. Bhagirath, using his engineering skills, succeded in doing so and today we have many cultures revolving around this holy river. Earlier,Indus or Sindh river was the only prominent river in India. Even the name Hindu or Hind arose from Sindh. Now, how long do you think has Ganga been in existence in plains of India? Amarnath Caves were discovered again only about a hundred years ago. They were only a part of folklore and mythology till then. Dwarka, Krishna's kingdom, has been discovered lying on sea-bed by the coast of Gujarat. Mythology has become reality. There have been found vast man made structures in the sea, which were once above water, in the seas near japan. Angkorwat Temples, hidden in Jungles, would have still been lost to the world. The jungle had covered it fully. What do you say about huge faces carved out of boulders, faces which resemble the dravidians of India, found in south America. The easter islands, the Nazca lines, the sphinx, etc. Everything that we see today around us is not happening for the first time. Read the part of Mahabharat when an Akashvaani warns Ashwathama and Arjun from using Mahastras like Brahmastra and pasupatimahastra. The effects on earth of these astras described in mahabharat, hauntingly resemble the effects of nuclear weapons. Was it only imagination of Ved Vyas or was it a fact. All the developments that we see today were not achieved in one day. Different scholars and scientists have contributed to knowledge base over centuries. What we see today is only the fruit of the tree that has taken long to mature. But, this tree can be cut down by ignorant and obstinate people in a day. There are thousands of civilizations buried under the sands and seas. What we know about man's past is a small fraction of what would have possible happened. Sciences like architectural sciences, medicine, astrology, metallurgy, comminucation sciences can not develop only in a few thousand years after the man evolved from apes. From a momadic life to agricultural, martial life. Use of fine weapons, scientific instruments, building structures which boggle our brains even in 21st century, developing knowledge bases like vedas which have answers to even 'modern' scientific queries, composing epics like mahabharat, bringing whole river down from himalayas to plains, medicine system like ayurveda which has been proven effective even today, all these have happened in a few thousand years of development of mankind? Nothing is ever 'invented'. An invention is simply a discovery of scientific combinations which already exist in nature. We can not say that man went to space for the first time only fifty years ago. Whenever we describe something new, we call it as happening for the first time in the 'history of mankind'. History is something that has been recorded. Whatever has not been recorded is pre-historic. And man was not in a habit of recording the first boat made, the wheel carved out of wood or the first spear made out of a tree limb. Not every information that was recorded has survived the ravages of time and plunder. Indians, least of all, ever recorded anything. Whatever information we have is only in form of religious texts. Whatever history we know about India is through the eyes of Greeks, Persians, Portugese and British. All of them had their own versions which glorified their own countries. Alexander is supposed to have won the war with Pauras, but later spared his life and kingdom and went back. Alexander knew no mercy and only a badly defeated Alexander would have retreated. The Greek historians of Alexander's era had to find some excuse to save the image of World Conqueror. So, this fine story was concocted and is still taught to students all over the world. Ashutosh - Vaidun Vidyadhar valist Thursday, August 18, 2005 23:14 RE: Some facts about India Dear Ashutosh, If we look around, the rate of progress is ASTONISHING. Humbly Yours Vaidun Vidyadhar Tamworth, NSW Australia Email: vvidya (AT) optusnet (DOT) com.au valist [valist] On Behalf Of Astrologer AshutoshThursday, 18 August 2005 15:19To: valistSubject: Re: Some facts about India Dear Vaidun, Interesting facts. But, there arises the question that were all these mathematical achievements and development of civilization in India could have happenned in a few thousand years, as the western historians want the world to believe. From cave-men to mathematicians and surgeons, all before the birth of Christ, a few thousand years is too small a period. Ashutosh
