Tradition and Outer Planets

Dear Chris,

In my last class at SJVC, I gave the first exercise at Free thinking

for the students. They have to explain the reason for the Decimal system,

why only ten basic numbers, why not more or less. They then have to try to

explain the Das Avatar (Ten Great Incarnations of Lord vishnu) to be

followed by the Das Mahavidya (Ten forms of the Divine Knowledge of the

Mother), the Das Guru (Ten Guru's of the Sikhs)..

Then they will understand the reson for Ten Pranayama of the Gayatri

Mantra before Japa.

In Astrology umpteen things can be explained in umpteen ways, but

the idea is to have a ten variable system that explains the life events.

This is Jyotish. Predictions about the future can also be made with

Angalakshana, but that is another aspect of Jyotish (See the scope of

Jyotish in my webpage), and not Hora Shastra.

I think that the Vedas don't have information on the outer

planets. Just like the way astrology is being studied more easily (and

discussed, as on this board) because of the new age of technology and

computers, perhaps there can be a melding of the new and the old in

Jyotish.

The reason I am saying this is because Margarite just did a quick

reading for me on Mars in my chart using Pluto's transit over my Sun and

Jupiter conjunction which seemed extremely accurate. She included the

outer planets and there seemed to be shades of more subtle

interpretations.

Any opinions, especially from Das and those in India on the board,

would be helpful.

My thanks for all those people who were kind enough to share their

9th House placements and their spiritual journey. Also, thanks to our

fellow Joyotish members who shared their charts who are Gay or Lesbian.
