Hi Hanna,

 

Ghati lagna and Hora lagna are very important lagnas. Calculating

these does involve some math, but it is not too difficult.

 

Here is how you calculate Ghati lagna.

 

1) Calculate no. of minutes elapsed from sunrise to birth

2) Multiply this by 5 and divide the result by 4. Remove multiples of

360.

3) Add the result to the longitude of the Sun at sunrise and you have

Ghati Lagna.

 

To calculate Hora lagna, Multiply by 2 and divide by 4 in step 2.

 

Let us take a concrete example. I was born at 1:10 AM. The sunrise

the day before was at 6:09 AM when the Sun was at 11Lib13. The

difference in time is 1141 minutes.

 

1141 x 5 / 4 = 1436.25

 

Removing multiples of 360, we get 356.25 which when added to 11Lib13

gives, 27Vir28, my Ghati Lagna.

Sorry for nitpicking, but let me correct you lest someone should get confused.

 

Adding 356.25 degrees is equivalent to subtracting 3.75 degrees. So your GL is

at 11 L i13 - 3 deg 45 min=7 Li 28.

 

So it's in Libra and not Virgo.
