Om Sree Gurave Namah

Dear friends,

I too share the indignation expressed by Sanjay in the paragraphs quoted at the

end.

Some authors like Prof Raman never resorted to image building,

commercialization, publicity gimmicks and egoistic boastings of great

predictions and they packed their books with 'substance' - rather than catchy

acronyms, buzzwords, opinions that contradict Maharshis, fashionable accounts of

own brilliance and vague explanations - and set a high standard for books in

this saattwik subject. However, I guess not all authors can follow Prof Raman's

high standards of impersonal, dedicated and saattwik writing...

'Growth' is not the important thing - growth in the *right* direction is. If we

have an egoistic savant guiding, a whole generation of very talented astrologers

can go in the wrong path, rendering great disservice to this subject, which may

be tough to undo. I pray to Hayagreeva, Saraswati, Jupiter and Parasara to give

a *saattwik*, progressive and *positive* direction to the growth of Vedic

astrology in the world!

* * *

As a deviation from the heated arguments that went on on this list, I want to

give an example. I will try to make my explanation simple and easy to

understand. (BTW, where are our puzzle posting friends? Post some puzzles!)

Let us consider a gentleman who was born on 25th Jan 1965, 11:10 am (IST),

78e10, 17n29.

He came to USA in the second half of May 1997. Let us analyze his 1997-98 annual

chart. Cast a chart for the moment when Sun enters the same degrees, minutes and

seconds in Capricorn that he occupied in natal chart. That moment is Jan 24,

1997, 9:33 am (IST). (Note: Your program may give a slightly different time.)

Cast a chart for this time (at birthplace) and compute "para desa saham" (PDS)

and "jala patana saham" (JPS). Refer to "Varshaphal" by Prof Raman or Sumeet

Chugh or Dr Charak for definition. Glossary: saham=significant point in the

zodiac, paradesa=foreign land, jalapatana=crossing an ocean. These two sahams

are important for foreign trips. Also 9th and 12th houses are important for

moving to a foreign country and 7th is important for long trips.

Here PDS is at 11 deg in Capricorn and JPS is at 24 deg in Aries. Lagna is in

Leo. (Note: Lagna is so close to the end of Leo that you may wonder if it is Leo

or Virgo. But, believe me, Leo is correct. Otherwise, he wouldn't have come to

USA in May 97!)

Lagna and muntha lord Sun is at 11 deg in Capricorn, within a few arc-minutes

from PDS! Lagna lord so close to PDS/JPS in a movable sign is favorable for a

foreign journey.

But this is not all! JPS is in 9th house and its lord Mars joins Rahu -

significator of foreign residence - within a few arc-minutes. Not only this, but

he has a trinal Tajaka aspect with lagna and muntha lord Sun and the two enjoy a

"poorna ithasala yoga" (very close applying aspect, a very good yoga) within 20

arc-minutes.

So, no wonder this gentleman moved to a foreign country during the year.

When can we expect the move? Sun's dasa or Mars dasa? Give an honest opinion.

Mars (9th lord, JPS lord and with Rahu) is a stronger candidate than lagna lord

Sun in PDS. But, why don't we look at Chaturthamsa (D-4, chart of fortune and

residence)? It has lagna in Ta. Jupiter and Moon are in 9th. Mars owns 7th and

12th and he is with Rahu in 8th. Sun is exalted in 12th.

In D-4, 12th stands for going to a far away place from one's place of birth and

exalted Sun in 12th may be a stronger candidate. Sun's Patyayini dasa ran during

May 16-June 7, 1997. He moved to USA during that time. I don't exactly remember

the date he came, but it could be around May 18 (Mars antardasa). [Note: You can

refer to the previously mentioned 3 books for the definition of Patyayini dasa.]

He ran the Patyayini dasa of Mars during June 7-11. You can see that Mars is

active in rasi chart, owns 7th and 12th in D-4 and occupies 8th in D-4 (which

can show changes of place, disturbances and instability). So his dasa also

brought journeys. This gentleman went back to India, took care of a few things,

went to some Arab countries on business and then came back to India, around that

timeframe, i.e. lot of movement.

Concluding remark: Long-term dasas, antardasas and pratyantardasas are useful.

So are transits. But there is no substitute for the clarity and focus brought in

by Tajaka annual/monthly solar return charts. I hope our community takes Tajaka

system seriously. If you haven't tried it yet, try one of the 3 books I

mentioned.

May Jupiter's light shine on us,

Narasimha

PS: I hope you have a program that can compute Tajaka charts, muntha and sahams.

Jaya Jagannath

Dear Narasimha & Gary,

Understanding the Maharishi's is a different thing. All traditional

astrologers including Prof B SuryaNarayana rao, Dr B V Raman, Iranganti

Rangacharya and myself have accepted the words of the Maharishi's for

determining the signs gained as N-1. Can K N Rao give the source where this

is N Years? Vimsottari dasa starts from the Sun and ends with Venus. What

happens if one is born in Venus Dasa? Does the dasa of the Sun not follow?

Can K N Rao quote the specific sloka where it is mentioned that the Dasa of

the Sun is to follow that of Venus? No. But we know it does because all Dasa

are cyclic.

Just because he has been teaching his ORIGINAL RESEARCH for sometime

does not make it correct when it does not fit the basic principles. Just

because he cannot understand the Maharishi does not make the teaching of the

Tradition incorrect. His Ahamkara is too big and he will never admit his

fault in this life time as then, he cannot sell his books. When I quoted the

sloka for the Mandooka Dasa and showed that what he called Mandooka Dasa was

called as Rasi dasa by parasara, he said that the goood Ol Vemuri said so.

Now, can he not accept his error like a gentleman. Must he continue to teach

these wrong things when i have also shown the sloka's etc to him?

Remember what Parasara said..Blindness will follow..I sincerely hope

that he gets out of his stupor and changes. He should immediately withdraw

his books on Mandooka Dasa and stop teaching wrong things.

Blessings of Sri Jagannath,

Sanjay Rath
