Hare Rama Krishna

Namaste Nandanji and other respected members,

Guruji Solai desired that we spend sometime in learning the lessons

associated with the stories of planets. Let us 'reflect' under the

watchful eyes of Gurudev and Guruji Solai, so that any glaring errors

in our thoughts are nipped in the bud.

Consider the following:

1. On the planet MOON, i have given a SLIGHTLY expanded version

of the story of moon-rohini-daksha, at the end of this mail. (This

story is basically about the origin of Somanath temple - one of the

12 jyotirlinga temples in India. These 12 Jyotirlinga temples are

linked to the 12 houses of the Zodiac in pp 48 of Vedic Remedies in

Astrology by Gurudev Also see the details in small print on pp 47)

As per this version of the story of Somanath, IT WAS LORD SHIVA WHO

SAVED MOON FROM WASTING AWAY!

2. Another story connected to KARTIKEYA (Skanda/Kumara

swamy/Saravanabhava/ Sanmatura/ Sadanana/Devasenapathi/Subrahmanya

etc.,) states that he was born in a forest of arrow-like grass (hence

the name Saravanabhava!) and that HE WAS REARED/NOURISHED BY SIX

DIVINE MOTHERS OF THE CONSTELLATION KRITTIKA (Pleiades). Here,

Kartikeya was born of Shiva and Shakti, when Gods desperately needed

Him to lead them against the demon Tarakasura.

3. ROHINI represents, beauty, artistic talents and expertise

in 'erotic arts'. The colour red is associated with Rohini, which

means passion and sensuality. The symbol of Rohini is a carriage

drawn by Oxen (represents wealth) - leads to the world of wealth,

luxury and sensuality.

4. As already said, Krittika - the six divine mothers 'nourished'

Kartikeya (devasenapathi).

The quality of 'nourishment' is where moon's deep exaltation is, I

suspect, and the intricate connection of Krittika-Kartikeya to Shiva

& Shakti. Moon is a great bhakt of Lord Shiva, ever since. Also it is

said, in a spiritual sense, Kartikeya/Subrahmanya means 'one who

tends the spiritual growth of aspirants'.

These are a few bits and pieces of information, to kindle your

thoughts.

Now the story of Somnath Jyotirlinga:

========

The origin of Jyotirlinga - Somanatha

Rohini and other twenty-six daughters, were given in marriage to the

moon by Daksa, the great soul. Out of these twenty-seven wives, moon

did not love any one so much at any time as he loved Rohini. The

others became distressed and sought refuge in their father.

On hearing this, Daksha too was struck with grief. He requested moon

to mend his ways and to take care of all his wives. Being subjected

to the force of destiny the moon did not accept his advice.

Infatuated of Rohini, he continued to neglect others. After repeated

requests, when the moon still did not listen to Daksha, he was forced

to curse moon. Just as he cursed him, the moon contracted consumption

within a trice.

When he was being wasted away there was a great hue and cry. The gods

and the sages became extremely agitated and felt miserable. Informed

and implored by the moon, Indra and other gods, Vasistha and other

sages sought refuge in Brahma and mentioned everything to him. On

hearing their words, Brahma said moon was always wicked and defiled.

The wicked moon had committed many unholy deeds.

(The wicked moon went to Brihaspati's house and abducted his wife

Tara. He then allied himself with the Daityas. Having sought refuge

in the Daityas he fought against the god though forbidden by Brahma

and Atri).

Brahma suggested that the moon should propitiate Shiva as only HE

could cure him.

The moon performed the penance continuously for six months at a place

presently known as Somanath temple. Lord Shiva, was favorably

disposed towards him at the end and granted him that his body will

not be wasted away, but he will wax and wane as he will move from one

wife to another.

For increasing the glory and greatness of the region and the moon,

Shiva stayed there in the name of Someswara.

=======

I have collected some stories linking 10 Jyotirlinga temples to 10

rasis. The information/story I have is incomplete for Nageshwar and

Bhimeshwar/Bhimashankar. I am trying for more information on these

two deities. I shall post this to the group as soon as I get it. Any

help on this is welcome!

......and your comments please. Let us keep the discussion going on

moon and other planets as desired by Guruji Solai.

Om Krishna Guru

Namaste Solaiji,

>>I think many like, Gopal Krishna can contribute.

I'll soon contribute from my side on different stories. Rather, I was not able

to decide from where I should start. BTW, I'm Gopal Kishan and not Gopal

Krishna.

(I'm sorry to interfere if the mail is for some Mr. Gopal Krishna on the list.)

Hare Rama Krishna

Guruji Solai,

Namaste.

Thanks for your encouraging words. I'll reflect on other planets

(stories) and write them down for a spirited discussion from members.

Two more points about planet moon's exaltation are as follows:

1. Quote from Bhagavad Gita chapter 15, text 13 " I enter into each

planet and by my energy they stay in orbit. I become the moon and

thereby supply the juice of life to all vegetables" Purport by Srila

Prabhupada on the second part is " Simmilarly, it is due to the

supreme personality of Godhead that the moon nourishes all vegetables.

Due to the moon's influence, the vegetables become delicious. Without

the moonshine, the vegetables can neither grow nor taste succulent.

Human society is working, living comfortably and enjoying food due to

the supply from the Supreme Lord. Otherwise, mankind could not

survive. The word 'rasatmakah' is very significant. Everything becomes

palatable by the agency of the Supreme Lord through the influence of

the moon."

The role of a nourisher could be on a material plane.

2. On a spiritual plane: The deity of Krittika is Agni, supreme

purifier. Moon represents mind and only a pure mind can experience the

spiritual bliss. This may be reason for the exaltation of moon in

Krittika.

hare rama krishna

The summaries which various people have posted and which are available

on the internet are very useful for those who have previously read the

stories in full. For the rest of us...they are simply confusing.

There are so many basic questions.

Surya who shines with such splendour should have sons like gems. But we

have Saturn who always fights with him, and Karna who fought against the

Pandavas. (How can Surya be unaware of the switch of Sanja and Chaya?)

>From the document that Nandan prepared:

"Ve is also the only planet to move in an opposite direction in its

revolution around the Sn, to that of all other planets (the teacher of

the Asuras). It is the most circular among all the 7 planets' orbits."

It reminded me of what Gurudeva had written in an email:

When all the planets orbit the Sun in a clockwise direction, Venus

orbits it in the anti-clockwise direction. It is the naturally wrong

path and is the cause of all desire.
