Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha! Om Gurave Namah Dear Sanjay, This question came from the talk with the Jewish Rabbi and I did not know how to answer it; Could you please tell us from when the concept of week(Sunday,Monday,Tuesday.....) exists in India(and Vedic astrology),since it is a Moon(cycle) calendar that has been exclusively in use in India from the ancient times? Thank you very much ! Your sisya, Mayapur das
Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah ------------------------ Dear Mayapur, The oldest reference available on the use of weekdays is Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra. Parasara was the father of Vyasadeva and hence should have been in this planet about 70 years prior to Vyasadeva's appearance. Vyasadeva was a contemporary of Bhagavan Sri krishna. So, we are talking of the time when the Veda was one i.e. the original Rik Veda in which we have many chapters contributed by Parasara. I don't think there is any other book in this world that is older than the rik veda. One example: Sankranti dosha is caused by birth at the time/ day of entry of the Sun into a sign. There are seven types of Sankranti dosha and these are based on the WEEKDAYS on which Sankranti occurs. i can go on.... My regards to Srila Sridhara Swamiji. Look at my drig dasa and see the changes that are waiting for me from 2003 when the drig of Jagannatha comes to Lagna.. Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Dear Sanjay The Jews say that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh - and that is why we follow a system of seven days making a week. Is there any information why Parasara measured in seven days? Were the names of the week named back then too? Thank you for enlightening us.
