Respected Members

I am trying to find out how to do the Satya Narayan

Vrath

Katha, I got a book and it suggests the following

1) To use a KALASH with coconut and leaves.

2) Do Ganesh Pooja

3) Do Avahan of Lord Satya Narayan and Devi Laxmiji

idols.

4) Use Banana Leaves to build a mandap

5) Make Halwa as prasad

And offcourse then reading the katha etc.

Now my questions are as follows:

I live in the US and a lot of things are not available

and also I donot have idols of Lord Satya Narayan and

Devi Laxmiji. Also the banana leaves may not be

available along with some other things.

May I request hereby to guide me here as to what

things I really need to do, to do the vrat katha every

thrusday.

What to do with coconut if one has to use one in the

katha.

Also does one need to fast whole day on thrusday or

full moon day.

Also is there a suitable time,i.e. best time based on

hora and one's horoscope to do the katha ?

I appreciate and thank in advance the help.

Best regards

Mitesh

Namasthe Mitesh,

BTW, where do you live. If you are in Bay Area,

California I can help you with the information that

you have requested.

Idols are available in Indian grocery stores in Bay

area, I am not sure about other areas.

All the other items like kajoor fruits etc are all

available here in the Bay area.

I think you can distribute the coconut and prasad to

friends whom you invite.

The best time to do is probably full moon day. Go to

www.mudgala.com and pick the panchang for your area in

the US and find the Satyanarayana Pooja day and do it.

I don't know much about fasting on the day of the

Vrath.

Is there any special reason why you want to do it

every Thursday ?(answer me if you think it is not

personal).

I can give you a list of things required for the

pooja.

As I have told you, if you are living in the Bay area

then everything is available.

So, let me know and I will be more than glad to help

you.

Regards

Saikumar

Dear Mitesh,

When we do the same pooja at home, we use only a photo of Satyanarayana not the

idol of him. If u don't have the photo I will try sending a jpeg for u (if any

members have please do send) . You can get the copies of it. Instead of banana

leave u can use Mango leaves for decoration of mandap(if I am wrong learned

members correct me).

Strick fast is on the day one does the Vrata - full day fast...

water only as I understand it....

I did this Vrata for 16 purnima...had the Puja done in Madras with Shastrails....

My constitution does not do well with a full day fast and did the best I could and

went to sundown. Yet it was still followed only by veg diet, abanga ( oil massage), extra meditation

and japa.

I plan on doing it again.... it is the right thing to do and is rewarding.

hope this helps...if your constitution allows for a full day fast , all the better.

Hello :

I believe there may be some substutions or replacements you could do

for the items that you may not be able to procure in some places.

We have to rely on Guruji to suggest the correct method to do the

puja in case some things are not available and what suitable

substitutions can be made.

If you had read the web page or the file or document that suggests

the methods to do satya narayan vrat and puja there are stories in

the katha in every chapter which tells(emphasizes) of the devotion in

the mind of the devotee, rather than emphasizing items they used.

yet this of great importance - the quality of consciousness of the native ( sadhu) performing

the puja.... it is traditional to substitute rice ( Aksatam , typically colored with Turmeric) when

an offering is not available.

Yet in my state ( Texas) mango is easily attained at a heath found store - all herbs are available

as is Kumkumam, Candan, etc. - if there is any offering you are having difficulty getting,

I will be willing to help and you can re-reimburse me for the costs... I can send to you as needed.

All satvic activities during this time ( in the world) will help the family of

Man...let me know what I Can do to

assist.

replacements you could do for the items that you may not be able to procure in

some places. We have to rely on Guruji to suggest the correct method to do the

be made.If you had read the web page or the file or document that suggests the

methods to do satya narayan vrat and puja there are stories in the katha in

every chapter which tells(emphasizes) of the devotion in the mind of the

Hello :

Akshtam is the red (or yellow) coloured rice, that is used for pyayre

offerings and also used for blessings and receiving blessings (i.e a

few grains of this rice are showered on the head of person receiviing

blessings)

It is a mixture of rice, turmeric (yellow coloured) and lime

[(choona, sunnambu )a white coloured substance also known as calcium

carbonate I believe]. When these three items are mixed, it gives a

red coloured texture to the rice. Occassionally when lime is not

available, only rice and turmeric are used.

Dear Gurus,

Could you give guidelines how to perform Puja in general and how to do it

for specific problems? For example, to improve influence of Ma in Ma

Antradasa, Sa in Sa Mahadasa and to improve quality of Gu.

What it's necessary to know and to have for it?

Jay Guru Dev,
