Guest guest
Good Morning, Please read down through your work below to see my comments. - Subramaniam Sharma 'Phyl Chubb MA' Cc: Monday, October 14, 2002 11:56 AM [sJC: Achyuta Gurukul] Working my way through SJVC Lessons 2/3 Hi,I have one query after working my way through lessons 2 and 3.===Query:The Kendras in various sources have been representative of four goals ofexistence (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha) or the four ashramas(brahmacharya, grahasta, vanaprastha and sanyasa) or the four varnas(Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya or Sudra). Which of these are the closest to the division that Sri Parashara meantwhen he segmented the Narayana into four kendras? As I was not too clear about your question I sought the opinion of Pt. Koch and will give you a copy of his answer. The above is not exactly correct. First, the four goals of human life, Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha, represent four stages of evolution - first, the awareness of self, and thus impulses to act accordingly (Dharma); then economic development (Artha); then fulfillment of desire (Kama); and finally liberation from births and deaths, viz Moksha. Astrologically these are kendras, Panaparas (succedent), and Apoklima (cadent) houses, and Moksha, or elements of Fire, earth, air, and water. The association with specific Deities fit the scheme in the following ways: Brahma, ruling cardinal signs/houses, is about creation; Shiva, ruling fixed signs and houses, is about destruction; and Vishnu (Narayana) is about sustenance, or maintenance, and thus combines both of creation and destruction also. Now, if we are to associate Narayana with either of Dharma, artha, kama, or moksha, it would have to be Dharma, as that is the purpose of His incarnation as for example, Lord Sri Krsna, or Lord Sri Ramachandra. Since the first dharma house is also a kendra, the kendra houses are said to be ruled over by Vishnu. or Narayana. Vishnu's consort, Laksmi devi presides over trikona houses, or 2nd and 3rd houses of dharma (i.e. 1,5,9). ===I would love to get feedback on this as well as on the answers.Respectfully yours,ssSJVC Lesson 2 Answers=====================1. Role of God in my life:To me he is the shelter to seek from all storms. Storms are created whenthe balance of Tatwas in my self creates a state of imbalance - Rajasicand Tamasic gunas dominate. At such times, reaching out to the Atma(part of the Param-atma) within me and using it as an anchor to sheltermyself helps me regain the balance towards a sattvic existence. It puts a perspective to all my senses and provides me with a meaning tolife.2. Activities in past year to get closer to God:In essence to get closer to God, I have been attempting to connect withmy Atma through a better understanding and control of my 'Mana'. As part of this process, I regularly say my prayers to RadhaKrishna andto Sadashiva, hopefully overcome the tamasic nature along the way as afirst step to connect with my atma. I am in the process of regularisingprayers in the morning after my morning baths and learning oursamskaras. Have focused on learning Jyotish and the fundamentals ofHinduism - getting closer to my roots. I am trying to lead a more sattvic life by ensuring that I am alwaystruthful, peaceful even under stress and actively seeking God. I havesome way to go, but believe that am on the right path... Great!3. God is all or All is God.God is All is more to the point since he is omnipresent though throughhis presence as atma in all beings, all is god as well. True.4. Difference of Jyotisha to a priestFor me the Jyotisha is the marg-darshak - one who shows the way to godwhile the priest is the channel, a proxy who helps those who cannotperceive god themselves to connect with him. They both have a role toplay in getting people closer to god and themselves. Good.SJVC Lesson 3 Answers======================1. Which Graha should have overlordship of the twelve signs of theZodiac? The two major components driving the division of the zodiac into the 12signs include the division of the Narayana into four parts representedby the 'kendras' and the division into 'trikonas' representing the threegunas. As the aim of every individual is to lead a sattvic life. The Sun, Moonand Jupiter being the three planets representing Sattvic characteristicscould be lords. It is the Sun.I interpret the four kendras as representing the four key goals of lifeon earth - Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. The lord of dharma is Sun.I believe that therefore Sun is the right overlord for the zodiacproviding the focus on existence on sattvic qualities and the executionof ones Dharma. Rigth 2, Schematic representation of Earth, Bha-chakra, Nara and Narayana.Difficult to draw this in text, but I think of this as a geocentriccircle with Earth at the centre and the Bha-chakra being a large circleof infinite radius delineated at 12, 30 degree points on itscircumference by the zodiac signs.Nara is the bounded circle (is it really a circle?) described by theoutermost planet Saturn within which the influence of the five tatwasi.e. Agni, Jala, Vayu, Prithvi and Akash abound and therefore driveslife on this earth. The ring you are speaking of is called the LokaLoka mountains.Sanjay wrote a wonderful article on this a few years ago. I am sure that if you look in the archives you will find it. Search for 'creation' or even the Loka Loka Mountains. Narayana is the space beyond this bounded circle.[Om Kleem Krishnaaya Jagannathaaya namah]Send a blank mailTo : -To : Your use of is subject to the
