Hello Kumar,

You cannot wear Garnet for the Sun. The gemstone for Sun is Ruby or Manikya

(Sanskrit).

Respected list members,

I have been a silent memeber of this list since about 2 months now,

and am seeking the help from the gurus and experts for the first time.

Can one wear a Red Garnet (Rhodolite) gem stone for strengthening

of Sun in a chart ? I am little confused, because Garnets are

also meant for Ketu.

If yes, how much weight one should prefer ?

Sincerely,

Kumar

Om Krishna Guru

Dear Sarajit,

That's what I thought, until I was corrected by Sanjayji. Sanjayji also says

that a Ruby is too hot for a lady, so a red garnet is the next best. I have

now for my collection Garud Puran under Sanjayji's instructions.

Hoping to have informed you.

Respected Sanjayji, Sweeji, and members :

Is it ok for a male to wear a Rhodolite Garnet for Sun ?

And if yes, how much weight in carat should one prefer for

an 165 lb weighing man ?

Thanks for your replies and patience with me.

Respectfully,

Kumar

Om Krishna Guru

Dear Kumar,

Rhodolite is pinkish in colour. In the gem industry, premium is paid for the

blue over tones [from presence of too much magnesium], which you may like to

avoid. It maybe better to get the lighter coloured one [much cheaper];

commonly called Rose Garnet [not Rose Quartz]. Rhodolite is from the pyrope

family, and it's absorption rate is about 45% higher than Ruby, so I do

think it pertinent that at least double the recommended size of Ruby will

increase it's effulgence. +/- 9 carat in weight would suffice. Ruby almost

equates the wave lengths to that of Diamond, and a garnet equates to half of

that.

I do not know of any type of garnet family that has been taken to represent

Ketu, except for the [micro crystalline; chalcedony] quartz family group.

Grossular Garnet, better known as Hessonite is the normal recommended

gemstone for Rahu, though if you are looking for a much clearer colour than

that, then spessartite/orange garnet can be the alternative.

Though in my opinion, Tourmaline that comes in a myriad of colours would be

the best alternative, as it's absorption rate is much lower than any of the

alternatives. [i.e., it is about +/- 20%, though some of the green colours

equate that of white diamonds], so similar weights for these can be

prescribed.

For further information you may like to go to Gauranga Das' website

http://www.brihaspati.net/gemstones.htm

Best regards, Swee

Dear Sweeji,

I am indebted to you for your in depth response.

I will try for a Tourmaline of 4.5 carats, before finalizing

Rhodolite Garnet.
