Guest guest
Dear Sanjay Rath Ji, I think by burning incense sticks means converting earth element into fire and finally to air and then to akash. May be it is symbolic that soul also leaves earth plane as body fire dies and then she get involved with Akash Tatva and finaly leaves this earth plane. The Egyptians buried their Pharoah's with gold, food and all the items they would need (!!) in the world beyond. I think the terrible Chengiz Khan had more knowledge than them as when he died, he said "leave my hands outside my coffin as a mark of rememberance to the world that I came empty handed and go empty handed". So, the incense or water is not the main point here. The point is that the dead continue in the same state of mind after death as they were before death. > > Coming to Jyotish, incense or agarbatti is ruled by Prithvi tatva (smell) and all prithvi tatva dosha that causes the spirits or any such souls to hang around the place is cleansed by the lighting of the incense. Use of perfumes is always good for women as the dead spirits or badhakas cannot be attracted to them. Of course they have another bigger problem of attracting the wrong kinds of men!!! > Seriously, it is not the lighting of the incense but the 'good thought' that causes 'good karma' and consequent 'good results'. This is based on the teaching of Visvamitra - suchimarkair Brihaspatim adhvareshu namasyate' RV III-62 However, I agree that doing what you suggest will give good results becuause the do so with a good thought. > > Water is the jala tatva and when offered with the Gayatri mantra carries the prayers to Surya Who then alleviates the problems of the spirits. It is the gayatri mantra that alleviates. If you did not offer water and simply sat down and mentally imagined that you made the offering, then also this would happen. Manasa Pooja is as effective as any ritual. > > With best wishes & regards, > I remain > Sanjay Rath > - ------- > Mail: H-5 B.J.B Nagar, Bhubaneswar 751014, India > Tel:+91-674-2436871, Webpages: http://srath.com > - ------- > > sentto-1045255-4833-1051865922-srath=vsnl.com@r...
