Guest guest
Dear Visti, Thank you so much for /spoon?/ 'feeding' me! And this is exactly what I need at the moment. Dear invisible hand helps, as expected. I am grateful and respectful, indeed. Best wishes, Anna - Visti Larsen Sunday, May 25, 2003 6:25 PM [sJC: Achyuta Gurukul] Tithi and Yoga |Hare Rama Krishna| Dear Anna, 1 Tithi and Yoga Among the Pancha-Anga (5 limbs) the Tithi and Yoga emerge from the movements of the Sun and the Moon. These two give rise to two Guru’s, namely Brihaspati (Jupiter) and Shukracharya (Venus). The former is the embodiment of the Akasha Tattwa or binding element which keeps all forms together and at peace, whilst the latter is the embodiment of the Jala Tattwa which sustains the native in this birth, just as the rain feeds the earth and causes the growth of crops. These are very important in Muhurta, as well as Prasna and can also be used in natal charts to see the trends of events to come (Dasa Pravesh Chakra). 1.1 Tithi 1.1.1 Calculation Tithi is calculated by deducting the difference in degrees between Sun and Moon, and dividing this by 12 degrees. The qoutient+1 will indicate the Tithi you were born on. There are 30 tithi’s, which form the basis of the lunar calendar and are used to determine times of worship, Muhurta and we can even use them for timing events in Jyotish. These 30 tithi’s spread over 2 pakshas, or 2 fortnights (time between full moon and new moon). The phase of waxing, i.e. increasing motion towards the full moon is called Sukla paksha. The other is called Krishna paksha. The Tithi’s are hence divided into two halves.. Those which occur in Sukla paksha, and those which occur in Krishna paksha. This gives us 14 tithis which repeat twice (14x2=28), whilst the last two – Full moon and New moon occur only once a month, giving a total of 28+2=30 Tithi’s in a month. Tithi # Tithi name Graha lord 1,9 Pratipad, Navami Sun 2,10 Dwiteeya, Dashami Moon 3,11 Triteeya, Ekadasi Mars 4,12 Chaturthi, Dwadasi Mercury 5,13 Panchami, Trayodasi Jupiter 6,14 Shasti, Chaturdasi Venus 7,Full Moon Saptami, Pournimasya Saturn 8, New Moon Ashtami, Amavasya Rahu The Tithi embodies the Jala Tattwa and is very important for the native. The Tithi a native is born on holds great sway in deciding the native’s passions in this birth. A person born on Triteeya Tithi has a lot of aggression in them (Mars – 3rd house) and is often tempted to express themselves very violently, and may have some mastery over weapons. However a native born on Dashami tithi maybe greatly attracted to fame and success (Moon in 10th) and hence also needs to control these aspirations. Similarly in a muhurta chart its important to choose the appropriate tithi will will correspond well to the focus of the muhurta. Whilst in natal charts the passion or innate desire and its fulfilment is seen from the Tithi Pravesh Chakra. 1.2 Yoga 1.2.1 Calculation Yoga is found by adding the longitude (starting from Aries) of the Sun and Moon. This result should be divided by 13:20 degrees. The quotient+1 indicates a Nakshatra number. This number will reveal one of the 27 Yoga’s, and should be counted from Pushya Nakshatra. The reason for the counting starting from Pushya is because its deity is Brihaspati who is the guru of the demigods, and hence Jupiter. “Among Guru’s I am Brihaspati!” – Sri Krishna. These Yoga refer to the union or Sambandha/relationship with the people around you. The 27 Yogas are given as follows, and their lords are as per the Vimshottari scheme: Yoga # Yoga Name Graha 1,10,19 Vishkumbha, Ganda, Parigha Sat 2,11,20 Priti, Vridhi, Shiva Merc 3,12,21 Ayushman, Dhruva, Siddha Ketu 4,13,22 Saubhagya, Vyaghata, Sadhya Ven 5,14,23 Shobhna, Harshna, Shubha Sun 6,15,24 Atiganda, Vajra, Shukla Moon 7,16,25 Sukarma, Siddhi, Brahma Mars 8,17,26 Dhriti, Vyatipata, Indra Rah 9,18,27 Shula, Variyan, Vaidhriti Jup The Yoga we are born on shows how we get along with the world and will show the success of any type of relationship. In a Muhurta chart its important that the various working forces helping to achieve a common goal work together and enmity doesn’t arise. This can be extended to Natal charts as well… This and the 3 other constituents of the Panchanga will be taught and discussed in full length on the 21st of September in the Weekend Workshop: Muhurta Principles & mundane astrology For more information on attending this refer to: http://srath.com/conf/2003_workshop.htm Hope this helps.
