Exaltation, Debiliation Vs. State

Namaskar,

I have a confusion regarding exalted state / Avastha of a planet.

Which one is more powerful or produce good results. Say Sun is

exalted in Aries and it is at 00"30'3 (Saisava, Child State) and the

other say sun is in Leo in first house (mooltrikona) at 14"35'36

(yuva, young state). Which sun should be considered more strong

exalted with low degrees or in mooltrikona with high degree (yuva,

young state).

On the same grounds, the question can be applied on Debiliated

planets of child state and yuva state, based on the houses they are

ruling. Say venus in virgo at 28"29"36 is debiliated. so will the

negative effect be full or quarter.

My point is how to relate exaltation / Debiliation with the state of

the planets (child, adolescent, youth, old, dead).

Gurus / Learned Members and Senior members, Kindly answer my query.

Kind regards,

Neeraj Gupta

Dear Niraj,

I've learned that avasthas temper rather than reverse

interpretations. Sometimes a graha at the beginning or end of a sign

is vargottoma or it may be within 1 degree of a yogatara (principle

star) like Spica (29"59'4) at end of Virgo. This will override the

avastha weakness. So you can't make a decision without considering

these things. Mulatrikona or exaltation is the strongest factor,

more than avastha. You can treat the avastha metaphorically.

Comparing Sun strength:

1. Aries 00"30'3 (Saisava) exalted.

2. Leo 14"35'36 (yuva) moolatrikona.

I like to use these rules:

Strong for good or bad when exalted.

Weak for good or bad when debilitated.

Exceptionally strong and always favorable in mulatrikona.

Strong and almost always favorable when in own.

So I would say in this case that the Sun in Leo is stronger. This is

not based upon avastha though.

Venus in virgo at 28"29"36 is debiliated. When weakened it may give

inconsistent results. Shad bala calculations use distance from

exaltation position to determine strength.

This is from Light on Life (Hart deFouw, Robert Svoboda):

Exaltation 87.5 to 100 %

Trinal strength 75 to 87.5 %

In own positive constellation 62.5 to 75 %

In own negative constellation 50 to 62.5 %

In friends sign 37.5 to 50 %

In neutral sign 25 % to 37.5 %

In enemy sign 12.5 to 25 %

Debilitated 0 to 12.5 %

You can get a list of fixed stars in Lahiri's Indian Ephemeris.

Peace,

Victor
