Guest guest
|Om Namo Bhagavate Balabhadraaya|Dear Rao, Heres what i've written on Nakshatras with regards to Muhurta. This will be presented in the Weekend Workshop on Muhurta, where the 4 other parts of the Pancha-anga will be covered as well. You will find it enlightening i hope. Also please correct me if there are any errors: 1.1.1 Basis of Nakshatra In 27 days + 7¾ of an hour the Moon makes one lunar revolution around the earth. This lunar return was understood by the Rishi’s and was used to determine the 28 Nakshatra’s beginning from Aries. The 28th Nakshatra, which only occupies 7¾ hours of the day was called Abhijit, and is an intercalary Nakshatra. This Nakshatra is said to be lorded by Vishnu as it progresses up to the Noon (Vishnu Gayatri of the day) and is hence the highest and most spiritual Nakshatra. For mundane purposes the Rishi’s thus excluded this nakshatra from their calculations, hence giving us 27 Nakshatra’s to determine the results of human behaviour. It should be carefully understood that the Nakshatra’s are determined by the Moon’s movement, and are hence considered as lorded by the Moon. This gives us some insight into the role of the Nakshatra’s. Parasara states: “sarvaatmaa cha divaanaatho manaH kumudabaandhavaH” meaning: “the soul is lorded by the Sun, whilst the lotus-friend lords the manas”. It so happens that “lotus-friend” is another name for the Moon. Hence the Moon lords the ‘manas’. An appropriate translation of ‘manas’ is “the object which interacts between the senses and the intellect”, i.e. the mind! Hence; the Moon lords the mind, and its Nakshatra is used to see how the mind is disposed. An ill disposed mind can result in uncontrollable behavior leading to diseases and wrong doings. For an activity or organization, the ‘manas’ can be translated as the link between the governing body (leaders, authorities) and the objects of actions (the ones who carry out the work). Thus the Nakshatra of the Moon must be carefully assessed to see which attitude the Muhurta will progress. I.e. will it happen aggressively and without much control, or will it be peaceful and progress with stability.Best wishesVisti---Sri Jagannath Center: http://.orgBhagavad Purana: http://www.srimadbhagavatam.orgiTRANS 99 Font: http://www.omkarananda-ashram.org
