Prsna Marga Part 1 pg 105 Slokas: 153-154

hogs, serpents, ahre, godha (can someone give the meaning of this word?) etc.,

IT IS GOOD.

color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN-GB">To see or hear the cries of the monkey and

the bear is good,

color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN-GB">

color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN-GB">BUT to hear their names uttered is bad.

color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN-GB">To see or hear the cries of an elephant,

horse or an ox is also good.

Varahamihira’s Brihat Samhita in his notes in Prsna Marga.

The godha is a gosapa which is a four legged serpent. It is

mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam - Canto 3, Chapter 10, Text 24 as an

animal with 5 nails on each claw (panca-nakhas). That sounds like a

lizard to me!

Dear dhamakesin,

 

Your explanation sounds very close to the 4 legged animal

like a lizard, but if you refer the page 104, Stanza 152,

BV Raman Ji, did mentioned about Lizard and Godha at the

same time.

 

By reading that it tells me that, Godha could be some thing

other than Lizard though. I may be wrong here.

 

Let us wait for Guru's reply to this.

Part II 86.42

chameleon, serpent, hare, godha (alligator/crocodile)

is auspicious, while their sight is not.

color:black">If you go back to Prsna Marga, the sloka prior ie 152 on the same

subject states that to see one is no

good. In the later chapters of the same book, it states that to see a snake on

your right is good. Brihat Samhita

states that to see one on your right wriggling to the left is no good. We can

conclude without a doubt that the hear the name of a

Serpent is good and to see one on your right is good, but one on your left is

no good.
