You are right, in Brihat Samhita, it states alligator, hence I extended

it to crocodile. But this should be a monitor lizard.

Makes a lot of sense. Nimittas taught by grandmother :)

The godha is a gosapa which is a four legged serpent. It is

mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam - Canto 3, Chapter 10, Text 24 as an

animal with 5 nails on each claw (panca-nakhas). That sounds like a

lizard to me!
