I was using the following website (

http://www.hindu-samskaras.i12.com/tithi.htm)to get information about important

tithis to begin tasks and similar things.

Reading the e-mail below created some confusion now. The piece that I am

referring to is "Sanjay ji: Yes. So, you see the connection? Who is

VastuPurusha, really? Saturn. Saturn is the VastuPurusha. And so, Saturn is a

veryimportant planet to be propitiated for properties, buildings etc...That's

why they say, doing `Grahapravesham' on Saturdays is veryauspicious."

In the website, there is a paragraph for "Enterning new houses" and this is what

it says "MON, WED, THUR AND FRIDAY ARE GOOD. SUNDAY, TUESDAY, SATURDAY ARE NOT

FAVORABLE. UTTRA BHADRA AND ROHINI ARE GOOD. NEW HOUSES SHOULD NOT BE RENTED

INTO WHEN THE SUN IS IN AQUARIUS, CANCER OR GEMINI. HASTA, SWATI, PUSHYA,

ASWINI, SRAVANA AND PUNARVASU ARE GENERALLY CONSIDERED UNFAVORABLE. THE

LUN-MONTHS MAGHA, PHALGUNA, VAISAKHA AND JYESHTA -GOOD"

My confusion now is, is Saturday a good day for entering new houses or not?

If there is any other similar website/resource where I can refer such matters,

it would be of great help.

Regards,

Sai

Gurukul] Who is VastuPurusha, Really?...Om ParamTatwaya Narayanaya Gurubhyo

Namah!Dear Jyotisha,This past weekend, "Vastu And Astorlogy" was the subject

taught inVineland, NewJersey. Something from that class...If you read about

Vastu Purusha, the presiding deity ofPlot/House/Building etc., in Puranas, you

may encounter a similarstory along the lines of the following…***Story

Begins…Once upon a time, there was this Demon called "Andhakasura", with

whomLord Shiva was fighting a great battle. It was a tremendous battle andwent

into many days; all the gods were waiting for the outcome of thebattle. During

that battle, a drop of sweat fell from Lord Sh!

iva ontothe ground. From that drop of Sweat arose a huge being, and started

devouringeverything he set his eyes on. He started destroying everythingaround.

Gods were, obviously concerned for the welfare of theuniverse, and so at once

pounced on this great being and held him facedown onto the ground. 45 gods in

all. They sat on and/or helddifferent parts of this being, such that he could

not get up.Dejected and unable to overcome the power of these 45 gods,

thatbeing, prayed to Lord Brahma - the Creator. "Oh Lord, You are the onewho

created me. Now, look at my fate, I can't even move an inch thisside or that

side. O creator of all, I bow to you. Only you canprotect me now". Pleased with

his prayers, Brahma said, "You shall be the presidingdeity of Land everywhere.

Before constructing any building/house,people shall pray to you and offer

oblations to you".*** Story End.This is how VastuPuru!

sha has become the presiding deity of Land andBuildings. And all t

hose 45 gods sitting on the VastuPurusha becamepresiding deities for the

respective limbs of VastuPurusha.Sounds an interesting story, ain't it?. But,

is that it? Is it all there is in this story? Gurudev Sanjay jisays otherwise,

please read on…==================Sanjay ji: It makes an interesting story,

isn't it? So what does itmean? What does it really mean?. Let's see the

knowledge we can gainfrom this simple story….Sanjay ji: Heard of Andhakasura?.

What is `Andhaka'? Student: DarknessStudent: BlindnessSanjay ji: Right. Yes.

`Andhakasura' represents blindness, orignorance. Because of which, you cannot

see and so, cannot know. AndLord Shiva, the Giver of light/Knowledge, is

fighting a hard battle toremove that blindness, ignorance, darkness. And the

result of thathard battle is...Sweat. Now, Which planet represents sweat? Stu:

Jala Tatwa, Moon? Stu: Saturn?Sanjay ji: Yes. Saturn. Saturn represents Sweat,

result of hardworkand labour. Sweat is an excretion from the body. And as the

Sweatfalls on the ground, it becomes the VastuPurusha. So, who is

theVastuPurusha?. Saturn. It is the Saturn that is the VastuPurusha. Whodoes

the VastuPurusha pray to when he is down and out? Brahma. Whodoes Sage

Parashara give as the `deity of Saturn'?Stu: Lord BrahmaSanjay ji: Yes. So, you

see the connection? Who is VastuPurusha, really? Saturn. Saturn is the

VastuPurusha. And so, Saturn is a veryimportant planet to be propitiated for

properties, buildings etc...That's why they say, doing `Grahapravesham' on

Saturdays is veryauspicious.Sanjay ji: Stories from Puranas, when read, must be

looked into forbroader and greater insights rather than just reading it like

abed-time story. Once you understand the basics, everything falls inplace. Look

deeper when you read puranic storie!

s. There is lot ofknowledge in them. Do not look at them as simple

stories.=======================Puranic stories, if superficially read, will make

great bed-timestories. But there is greater depth and knowledge in them. Looking

atthe above seemingly simple story, even the name of the Asura has ameaning.

Lord "Shiva" fighting with him has a meaning. The reason formentioning "Sweat"

has an important meaning. The reason that he praysto `Brahma' has an important

connection etc…etc…Hope this provokes us into reading Puranic stories in a

different light.Best Regards,-Suresh.[Om Kleem Krishnaaya Jagannathaaya
