In India, people who believe in astrology & want to go for astral remedies, for buying a gem stone, always have money constraint. in the available funds it's always difficult to balance between quality & weight of the stones. I'v seen many people giving more importance to the weight which should be min. 4.66 carats, whereas some people have views that quality is more important & even good quality stone with 1.5 carat can be effective. Here Paramamsa Yogananda states that his Guru, Sri Yuktesvar, who was both an astrologer and enlightened, said that the minimum weight must be two carats. Sri Yuktesvar wrote a book on astrologer, but as of yet I have been unable to track it down. Also, keep in mind that the harder the stone the more power it has- so Diamond is the most powerful gem, followed by sapphire. So if the gem is softer, like coral, you would probably want a larger piece.
