All:

In my humble opinion: If we really want to bring our mind and

wavering thoughts under control, we should make it one-pointed by

giving it some work to do.

Once there was a person who had propitiated a demon with a mantra he

received. The demon said " I will work for you, but you must agree

to one condition: I have to work all the time. If you cannot give me

enough work, I will eat you up." The man was terrified. Every day he

gave the demon more and more work, but the demon was a very fast

worker. Finally the work ran out; there was no more to give him.

When a person is in in trouble, he looks for a good person to give

him some advice, but when he is not in trouble, he never looks for a

good person. If he did, he would not have any problems. This man ran

to the being who had given him the Mantra and said "Please help me!

Save me from this demon!!".

""What's the matter"", the great being asked?. "I have run out of

work for the demon to doand now I am in REAL TROUBLE", answered the

man.

"Dont be afraid", the great being said. ""Go back home and put up a

pole forty feet tall. Then tell the demon to keep going up and down

the pole. That will keep him busy. "

The demon began to do the work of going up and down, up and down the

pole, and the man was able to relax. So if we really want to control

our mind, we should erect a pole out of the mantra. Tell your devil,

your mind, to keep doing the Mantra " SO'HAM ". As it climbs up and

down the pole, it will become quiet. This is the best means of

controlling the wavering mind.

Sooooooooo... is the inhalation sound, and is remembered in the mind

along with that inhalation.

Hummmmmmmm... is the exhalation sound, and is remembered in the mind

along with that exhalation.

Soham provides the answer, I am THAT. While the English translation

is not nearly as important as the quality of the sound vibration,

soham translates as I am that. When remembered repeatedly, it

declares I am that I am that I am that I am....

There is no greater worship than the worship of the inner self.

There is no greater deity than the self. To lose oneself in the self

is the true repetition of the mantra. This is true love and true

satisfaction.

This is the greatest Mantra.
