THE SATURN AND THE RED TIDE

By MADHU N NAIR

THE RED TIDE --- Red tide is a naturally-occurring, higher-than-

normal concentration of the microscopic algae Karenia brevis

(formerly Gymnodinium breve). This organism produces a toxin that

affects the central nervous system of fish so that they're paralyzed

and can't breathe. As a result, red tide blooms often result in dead

fish washing up on beaches. When red tide algae reproduce in dense

concentrations or "blooms," they are visible as discolored patches of

ocean water, often reddish in color. .Respiratory, nose, throat, and

eye irritation Occurs to people living near the areas affected by red

tide. Three common signs of a red tide bloom are discolored water,

dead fish, and breathing difficulty. Scientifically, a plausible

reason is yet to be found for the red tide Phenomenon.

However, in the opinion of this scribe, the planets Saturn, Rahu &

the watery signs of the zodiac viz Cancer, Scorpio, the second half

of Capricorn & Pisces has much to do with the red tide. Saturn stands

for everything "DEAD" and the watery Signs , especially

Cancer, the

2nd half of Capricorn and Pisces stands for "AQUATIC

CREATURES"

Saturn entered the Sign Cancer acclaimed as "SAMUDRA" RASI

(sign

representing ocean) by classical text on the first week of November

2004 and lo!! Immediately, the red tide was experienced in the

coastal areas of Trivandrum (capital of Kerala, a state of India )

and Quilon, an adjacent district.
