Guest guest
Dear Angel Goel, Pure honey (not heat treated) is, like pure ghee, considered a Rasayana which stimulates production of Ojas, a subtle substance that links the physiology with consciousness and confers strength, immunity and happiness. This amazing gift from nature has the quality of balancing all three humors (doshas) and when we consider that the grahas express certain doshas specifically, i.e. Saturn- vata dosha, Sun-Pitta, Jupiter-Kapha, and so forth it's not hard to understand the great remedial qualities of honey. Apart from this I know of no "specific" astrological reason for prescribing it. PS: Cooking with honey (heating) is never recommended as it is then considered toxic...stimulating the production of Ama rather than Ojas. Guest guest
Hi Wendy and Srikanta Ji Thanks for nice explainations regarding Honey. Also I would like to ask :- What is "Lemon Puja" (making a diya of Lemon and lighting lamp of it) advised ? This is usually done in South India. thanks angel --- wenvasuk <wenvas wrote: > Dear Angel Goel, > > Pure honey (not heat treated) is, like pure ghee, > considered a > Rasayana which stimulates production of Ojas, a > subtle substance > that links the physiology with consciousness and > confers strength, > immunity and happiness. Guest guest
Dear Wendy, Iam a regular consumer of honey with lemon(2-3 drops) in the early morning before I take my morning coffe/Tea.This habbit continues with me for several years now. Truely it has very good antidote for sevral ailments and is an immunising agent. In India normally honey is used for medicinal purposes apart from worship of Gods.very religiously we use it for PANCHAMRUT, an offering made to God for his holy bath.A portion of this is later distributed to the worshippers and consumed by them. This PANCHMRUT consists of milk(cow),Ghee,Curd,Honey and Rose water which as constituents used in worship and holy bath in temples. This is the time honey is considered as very impotant for worship purpose. But the in mythology there was a story when the sea was stirred vigorously to take out AMRUT( the one which can save from death) several things in process have come out of this long and hectic stirring of the Sea.Ultimately came out the Amrut and is meant for consumption of Angels/Gods.The word nector also substitutes for honey. As far it's linking for the tatwas of planets is concerned and your views"when we consider > that the grahas express certain doshas specifically,i.e. Saturn-vata dosha, Sun-Pitta, Jupiter-Kapha, and so forth it's not hard to understand the great remedial qualities of honey" Only thing I would like to mention is these vata, pitta, kapha are part of nature and every one has to have(live with) these elements in proportion which seldom happens leading to one or other excess in the human system(may be in all living beings!). This again ,if you permit is the result coming out of poorva karma and can be understood from 2nd and 5th houses. Before I conclude the benifts of taking honey in the early morning will defienetely build up immunities and can hope to be free from virals and have a healthy life krishnan angel <angelgoel wrote: Hi Wendy and Srikanta Ji Thanks for nice explainations regarding Honey. Guest guest
Dear Krishnan, Your input, as always, is valued. I just hope I expressed my point clearly enough in regards to Rasayanas ability to "balance" all three doshas. I think we're in agreement that due to multiple reasons we can experience imbalance in the doshas during specific dasa periods and/or transits, and that (from an astrological perspective) Rasayanas can be an effective remedy to restore balance...this I think (I hope) we're in agreement with :-) Another valuable remedy (I was taught) to pacify Vata and promote restful sleep is to drink a cup of boiled milk (with a spoon of ghee and a spoon of Vata churna) before going to bed. Bring to a rising boil three times and pour back and forth from pot to cup several times to aid digestion...simple remedies that work wonders. PS: I'm still struggling with my mailbox and not receiving group mail regularly...probably this will continue to be an annoyance until 3rd lord Jupiter breaks free from the grip of Ketu...such is life. Guest guest
Dear Wendy, Krishnan, Angel and all, Thank you for your interesting discussion about honey. Besides the Ayurvedic health principles and benefits of honey that you have enumerated, and the use of honey in pujas, honey has great esoteric meaning in various religious traditions. Krishnan already made reference to the Hindu myth of the churning of the milky ocean that released amritsa, a honey-like nectar of immortality. In Biblical symbolism, the Promised Land is described as a fertile place dripping with honey like liquid sunshine. The ancient Egyptians, who kept bees as long as 5,000 years ago, used honey for various purposes and considered it a celestial food that opened the heart and healed the body. Egyptian royalty were entombed with pots of honey, which have been found unspoiled by modern archaeologists, to help guide their passage to the Afterlife. In all the earliest cultures in the Middle East, honey was viewed as a gift of divine origin. The ancient Semites believed that honey was a gift from the most revered Babylonian Earth-Mother Astarte, goddess of fertility and love. In the Koran, Allah describes Paradise as a place with rivers of flowing honey. Honey is viewed as a Divine gift of Allah. In certain yogic traditions such as the Siddha path, the guru transmits shaktipat, which is also referred to as a "bee-sting from the guru." Many spiritual traditions correlate honey with the nectar of the Gods, and I particularly believe it to be like ambrosia sent by the Blessed Mother. There is a wonderful novel about this very subject by Sue Monk Kidd called _The Secret Life of Bees,_ in which many correlations are drawn between the Black Madonna, bees and honey. Think of the honey bee colonies that revolve around the Queen Bee, their "Divine Mother." In most colonies, the Queen Bee does all the reproducing. In meditation on the Nada Brahma/Sound Current, one of the sounds that is often heard is of honeybees humming. We are truly blessed to have this marvelous substance honey, and thanks for reminding us all to eat it daily for its miraculous health benefits. Best regards, Juliana Swanson

Guest guest
Hello Angel' It is usual in Hindu Culuture to use lemon(Yellow Colour) for worship as well as for some tantric practices. Even some of the houses and shops 3-4 lemons are kept hanging to avoid evil influences and nazar utarne ke liye. For Durga,Hanman ji in temples about 108 or 54 or 27 are made as garland and offered. This is particularly in the cases of Girls whose marriages some times get delayed than anticipated.PerformingDurga Ashtottram/kum kumarchana is very common form of worship. This kind of offering of lemons is repeated for 12 weeks(only on Tues days and for Hanuman ji on saturdays). For hanumanji with lemon juice Abhisekam/holy bath is also performed on Tues days. After the worship by removing juice in both halves(cut) of lemon by putting ghee light a lamp also. This is normally done during navaratra days. in temples by kanyas(un married girls) Worshipping Gods with lemon as kind of offering is very common. We also see that when a new two/four wheelers are bought they are bought to mandir and by breaking coconut and by rolling the new vehicles on these lemons. Such worships remove all evils and promote welfare. krishnan angel <angelgoel wrote: Hi Wendy and Srikanta Ji Thanks for nice explainations regarding Honey. Guest guest
Dear Mrs Wendy, I am perfectly in tune with you on the subject and in fact it is a very good in put for me.For getting good sleep and to contain vata we have another suggestion: In a cup of boiled milk add a spoon of turmeric powder(it is yellow in colour used for Cooking also) and drink this milk.It removes Vata and gives a refreshing sleep also. Planets do cause unwarrentd hinderances and it is not that we seek for them but have to bear them. In my 10th Jupiter and Ketu having been making me to strech my abilities beyond a level.may be the desire of the Destiny and I am just obeying to the circumstances. Great Celestial dramas and wonderful experiences krishnan wish you all best krishnan P.S:it is pretty long time you could find time to share your views with the Group.may be need to thank Honey and ofcourse one of our member:Angel? wenvasuk <wenvas wrote: Dear Krishnan, Your input, as always, is valued.
