Some thoughts on Sani's Narasimha Stuti

Sani has written a Stuti in praise of Narasimha, which can be

read online at:

http://www.brihaspati.net/sani.htm

Here, some personal thoughts are given. Emphasis has been added

with "*" used to surround the words that need highlighting.

Please note that this study is NOT limited to Hinduism. It

concerns Sani, the natural karaka for grief, and the Supreme

Soul (as represented by Narasimha in this instance). Thus,

irrespective of your religion, it is hoped that this proves

useful.

One interesting thing is that Sani ends most verses addressed to

the Supreme Soul with the following words:

sa tvam nåsiàha mayi dehi kåpä-valokam

This translates to:

O Lord Nåsiàha, please bestow upon me Your merciful side-long

glance

The irony is that Sani, whose aspects or "glances" are always

evil, is himself seeking merciful glances from the Supreme Soul!

In Verse 7, Sani says:

By meditating upon He whose great form is devoid of

imperfections, the best of the saints attained liberation from

the ocean of *materialistic attachments* and obtained

unmitigated salvation. O Lord Nåsiàha, please bestow upon me

Your merciful side-long glance.

This is a nice touch - Sani, as the Vairagya Karaka, helps us to

overcome materialistic attachments, which then leads us to

salvation.

In Verse 8, Sani Says:

By meditating upon He whose form is fearsome, all peace,

happiness and prosperity can be obtained, all sins can be

obliterated, the fear arising from evil spirits, fevers and

*unfavorable planetary positions* can be removed, O Lord

Nåsiàha, please bestow upon me Your merciful side-long glance.

The reference to the planetary position shows that the Supreme

Soul is the only one who can save us from the gravest of dangers

as reflected by the positions of the Nava Grahas in our birth

charts.

In verse 11, the Supreme Soul says:

O Çani, I am pleased with your devotion. What ever you desire

that will benefit the world, ask for that kind of boon and I

will grant it.

The Supreme Soul, knowing that Sani is the Karaka for grief,

asks Sani himself to do some good for humanity! Of course, since

the Supreme Soul created Sani, He knows that Sani is in fact

doing good for humanity all along by bestowing suffering, which

turns humanity away from the materialistic world and helps them

to attain salvation.

In response, Sani says:

O Lord Nåsiàha, O reservoir of compassion, please be kind to me.

O Lord of all gods, let my week-day (Saturday) be Your favorite

day. O Purifier of all the worlds, may You fulfill the desires

of all those who listen to or read this great prayer to You

composed by me."

Sani, asking the Supreme Soul to fulfill the desires of His

devotees is a little hard to digest because Sani himself is busy

all along throwing obstacles in the path of humanity! However,

we have to take this as Sani's plea to the Lord that He should

fulfill the ultimate desire of the soul - liberation.

In reply, the Supreme Soul says:

O Çani, let it be so! By virtue of My being the universal

protector (rakñobhuvana), I fulfill the desires of all My

devotees. Please listen to My words -let there be no fear of the

twelfth and eighth birth positions (and implicitly any

unfavorable birth positions) and consequent troubles from you

for any one who reads or listens to this prayer to Me composed

by you.

While the latter part of the statement concerns unfavorable

positions of Sani in the birth chart, the first part shows that

the Supreme Soul, by being the universal protector, is offering

protection against all ills, not just those caused by Sani.

Hope that this shows the "malefic" Sani is a new light!

Dear Mr Balaji,

Great effort in tracing in sani's version of Nrisimha Stuti,an embodiment of

Lord Vishnu and is one of the dasavataras.probably in today's transitory

positions where in sani and Mars have close 7/10 aspect, the need is to go for

worship of Nrisimha and Haygreeva through stutis and stotrams.

The Fiery God,known as ugra swarupa has also mars in his reach along with the

saturn, the preacher of the truth and facts.

These two can be attained through the recitation of Nrisimha stuti and the

initiative is enlightening in making the URL accessible to one and all.

I thank you personally and on behalf of group too for suggesting avery important

form remedy through mantra.

In case if the recitation is associated with and observance of regulations

during prayers,please let us know

I once again thank you for your sincere and ardent effort.

krishnan

Dear Balaji,

With open heart and open minds we can find the same truth underlying

all treatises...is this not so :-)

According to my understanding Satan and Saturn are the same words,

one early latin, and the other late latin. The word "Satan" (from

the Hebrew for "adversary") comes from the Old Testament, especially

the Book of Job; see: http://www.drbo.org/chapter/20001.htm

Satan's role as an adversary was to wander the Earth in pursuit of

those who did not keep the faith and who broke God's law. Satan was

authorized by the Hebrew God to test and tempt humans to demonstrate

their lack of moral goodness. The planet Saturn, which rules the

sign Capricorn, is traditionally called the Great Teacher and

Taskmaster.

We all know that the approach of Saturn dasa or the commencement of

Sade Sati strikes fear in the hearts of all...it's not without

reason that this custodian of karmic retribution is called the

planet of "GRIEF". But everything (everthing!) depends on his

placement and lordship. A native for whom Saturn has manifested as

YogaKaraka (9th lordship particularly) will naturally have, based on

his own experience, a more favourable view a Saturn - not everyone

is (severley) put to the test - as was Job for instance.

The renowned theosophist, H. P. Blavatsky, has this to say about

Saturn (Satan)...

"Stand in awe of him, and sin not; speak his name with trembling . .

.. . For Satan is the magistrate of the justice of God (Karma); he

beareth the balance and the sword . . . For to him are committed

Weight and Measure and Number."

"Satan is the minister of God, Lord of the seven mansions of

Hades"... The seven or Saptaloka of the Earth with the Hindus; for

Hades, or the Limbo of Illusion, of which theology makes a region

bordering on Hell, is simply our globe, the Earth, and thus Satan is

called ". . . . the angel of the manifest Worlds."

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy
