Guest guest
Dear Members, =================================================================== Those who wish to know the story which is in a compressed version written by Shri R. Srinivasan in the net in one of the Indian sites. The story is dealth with in the great epic Mahabarata. ==================================================================== """"""When Rajasuya sacrifice concluded there yet was a formality to be completed. The foremost amongst all was to be honoured at a special function. This was a very delicate task that could cause severe embarrassment and serious repercussions. When Yudhishthira was wondering who should be the principal guest of honour, his youngest brother Sahadeva, the wisest among men, stood up and stressed that Sri Krishna alone was qualified for the signal honour. `He is Lord Narayana incarnate. He is the creator, the protector, the destroyer, the all pervasive Vishnu all rolled in to one in the form of Krishna. In honouring him he will only be honouring ourselves! Sahadeva's wise words were endorsed by everyone present as they all knew he has spoken nothing but the truth. When Yudhishthira was about offer the `agra poja` to Sri Krishna with great joy in his heart, Sisupala stood up in his seat and stormed aloud." Enough of this foolishness, there should be a limit to all this contrived tom- foolery. Who is this Krishna? Only a cowherd who has no right to sit amidst royalty. There are so many other eminent personages here who deserve this honour.. Without choosing any of them, you have chosen this thief, born in a prison, brought up in acowshed, whose companions were all rustics without any education and culture at all! Sisupala, the son of Damagosha, went on raving and ranting like this for quite some time. Meantime, Krishna, dropped on by one, flowers with which he was worshipped earlier. He was meticulously counting the insults heaped on him by Sisupala so blasphemously, so thoughtlessly. He took care not to count the same insult thrown at Him a second time by Sisupala. If the insult was a very common one, even that was ignored. He respected his promise to his aunt, mother of Sisupala, given at the time of Sisupala's birth. Sisupala had been careful so far and was avoiding one hundred offences in a sequence. But, now, his hatred of Sri Krishna obsessed him so much that he forgot everything and kept on hurling vituperative abuses, one after the other, in quick succession. Sri Krishna, in all fairness, must have counted one hundred and fifty such abuse before He summoned His divine discus and sent it hurtling at Sisupala's neck. Even as the vile Sisupala was rushing at Sri Krishna, with his raised sword, and hurling more and more abuses, the discus met him half - way and severed his body from his head. But, wonder of wonders, a sudden ethereal glow emanated from the body of Siupala, reached the lotus feet of Sri Krishna and was lost to view. One of the twin door-keepers (Dwarapalakas of the Lord at Vaikunta, Jaya, by name, had served his accursed term of being the Lord's enemy for three births and had attained long-awaited blessed release from the curse of sages. The Rajasuya function, the special function of honouring the Lord Sri Krishna, could now be completed without any further hindrance. The Lord Sri Krishna, enjoyed the hospitality of the Pandavas for some more days before He returned to His own city Dwaraka… Now, Dandavakra, the other gate-keeper at Vaikunta, Vijaya, was waiting for his redemption.""""""""""" Guest guest
Dear Ravindramani, Yes, this is basically the same story as it was told to me. In the story I was told, Vijay, a very high soul, very loving, very honest, went to Brahma loka when he died (as he'd been told he would); and, in his eagerness to see Brahma, he tripped and fell over a little Ashwini Kumara who cursed him to a thousand more lives. Devastated, Vijay pleaded with Brahma to lift the curse. Unfortunately Brahma could not lift the curse completely so he told Vijay he would give him a choice. 1) You can live 10 lives as a great saint; everyone will love you, you will give everyone back to themselves, speak only of God; your whole life will be cared for so sweetly; always the flowers will come, always the nectar will come into the people you are with. Your death will be a great honour. OR... You can live 3 lives as a demon. No one will like you; you'll live a miserable life, everyone will hate you, and you will die a violent death. Vijay said, "Lord, I'll take 3 lives as a demon - it's much quicker getting home". Immediately Vijay was placed into the womb of Krishna's cousin (I think it was?). As the story was told to me he (Sisupala) was born with three eyes and four arms. Brahma told Sisupala's mother that as soon as the child was placed on the lap of the one who would kill him, one eye would recede, two arms would recede, and the child would be normal. And, of course, as soon as he was placed on Krishna's lap, this is what happened. ......so the story goes on :-) To me, the crux of this story is that we don't (really) know another person. We may think we know by looking at their karma in this life...but what do we truly know about the people we're looking at and (often) judging. I think it's a beautiful story :-)) Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com ______________________________ - "ravindramani" <ravindramani <jyotish-vidya> Friday, January 27, 2006 1:02 PM Story of Sisupala - Courtesy Shri R.
