Guest guest
Dear Sean and All, Below is the response I got from Parashara's Light. Note; I have the 'Sunrise' option set for the edge of the Sun - meaning Sunrise is taken to be the moment the (edge of disk) of Sun first appears on the horizon. The other option (PL) is to take the centre of the Sun as Sunrise. In either case Gulika still remains in Cancer although the degree has changed. On the following site http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/RST_defs.html#top it states: "Sunrise and sunset conventionally refer to the times when the upper edge of the disk of the Sun is on the horizon, considered unobstructed relative to the location of interest. Atmospheric conditions are assumed to be average, and the location is in a level region on the Earth's surface." This appears to me that they too take the edge of the Sun as Sunrise...so back to the discrepancy??? Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com ______________________________ - "Parashara's light Customer Support" <sales "Wendy Vasicek" <jyotish Tuesday, February 21, 2006 1:09 PM Wendy: Errors in PL2000 Dear Wendy, Thanks for your mail. First of all let me assure you that Parashara's Light promises 100% accuracy in calculations because we know how important this is to give meaningful interpretations. Regarding the difference that you are getting, we request you to check your Options settings. PL offers so many alternative options for calculations. There is a possibility that the Option settings may be different and therefore there is a difference in results. For example: Sunrise can be calculated both from edge of sun and from center of sun. Guest guest
Dear Neena, It's a real headache - now I'm wondering what software I can really trust (I stopped using Das's program a long time back because of the errors). I'm loathe to even look at another chart at the moment; certainly I have neither the time nor the inclination to start doing it all by hand again :-( Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com ______________________________ - "neenako" <neenako <jyotish-vidya> Tuesday, February 21, 2006 4:09 PM Re: Wendy: Errors in PL2000 -Wendy, Jhora 7.0 also gives Gulika at 8* Leo. Guest guest
Dear All, At last I have a satisfactory result from PL... - "Parashara's light Customer Support" <sales "Wendy Vasicek" <jyotish Tuesday, February 28, 2006 2:43 PM Wendy: Errors in PL2000 Dear Wendy, I regret the delay in responding but I was checking out the version in which this problem of Gulika has been corrected. You are right; Gulika calculations were wrong in PL2000. Instead of dividing the period from sunrise to sunset by 8, it divides that period by about 12. This bug has since then been corrected in PL6 and Pl 7. There are two ways of calculating Gulika. One method uses the beginning of the time period, and is referred to as the Parashara method. The other method uses the ending of the time period, and is referred to as the Kalidasa method. The calculation options have included a preference for this since PL2000, and control which calculation is used when Gulika is shown in the chart. We regret that you have been put to so much inconvenience. The normal upgrade price from PL2000 to the latest version PL6.1 is 149$ plus shipping. However in the light of all the inconvenience caused to you, we would like to make the following offer to you: We offer you PL7 for a special price of xxxx. PL7 is due to be released next week. So please let us know your preference. We once again apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
