Guest guest
Dear Balaji, I've managed (at long last) to read through your article - sorry it took so long! As always your research ability stands out. I think I might have taken a different approach but your effort is certainly commendable. If I'm not mistaken the monsoon season in India (varsha), from 20th Jul to 19th September, is ruled by Moon. Looking at the chart for India, it's seen that Moon, along with ME, SA, VE, SU, occupies 3rd house in sign of Cancer. As we know, the passage of the Sun through the zodiac determines the seasons and therefore is not assigned any one particular season. What I find interesting in this chart is that Sun travels through Cancer, Leo and Virgo during the monsoon months...relevant because the lords of these houses are conjunct in Cancer...not surprising to me that all these planets join in this house which represents the month in which the monsoon begin. We again come back to the 3rd house and its association with the 'cause of death'. As you say many people lose their lives during the monsoon season; either, as you say, through too much rain(flooding) or too little(drought). Both Moon and Mercury occupy nakshatra of Saturn whilst the rest (SA, VE, SU) occupy nakshatra of Mercury. It makes an interesting study :-) Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com ______________________________ - "Balaji Narasimhan" <sherlockbalaji <jyotish-vidya> Saturday, April 15, 2006 12:47 PM The Lord of the Rains Dear friends, I have uploaded a file called RAINLORD.PDF in the files section, which concerns an astrological analysis of rainfall in India spread across one hundred years and over two million square kilometers. Guest guest
Dear Balaji, //According to IMD (India Metrological Department), monsoon in India - South West - is from 1 June to 30 Sep.// I don't doubt this at all - just going by the seasons as given in BPHS Ch.3 "45-46. PLANETARY SEASONS: Vasanta, Greeshma, Varsh, Sarad, Hemanta, and Sisira are the six Ritus respectively governed by Venus, Mars, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn. Rahu and Ketu denote 8 months and 3 months respectively."
