Guest guest
Om Shri MahaGanapataye Namah Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya Dear Sushma ji, Namaste. I believe you are talking about Shri Durga Saptashati. I wish I could be as brief in my answer as your query is. This stotra is from Shri Markandeya Purana, comprises of 700 shlokas and has been published by GITA press Gorakhpur. Various other important Suktas/stotras also having astrological, Mantrik and Tantrik connotations are incorporated in their edition. I would suggest only a Guru having lineage in Shri Durga Upasana is authorised to guide and initiate one into various aspects of this stotra. I would add further that for regular recitation purpose there are many methods, this stotra requires initiation and utkilan also. Reasonable guidance in HINDI is given in the edition by GITA press itself. The correct pronunciation of sankrita is also a vital aspect in practising this. I have seen many professional pundits soiling the anushthan of Durga Saptashati due to their incorrect pronunciation. However, recitation of Hindi translation of the stotra by the people who are not confident of correct sanskrita pronunciation is also very much in vogue, particularly in U.P., M.P. and Delhi area. Without specialised guidance also one can start reading/reciting the following parts - Saptashloki Durga, KAVACH, ARGALA, Durga Dwatrinshnama Mala. When 100 recitations of Shri Durga Saptashati are made within a specified period, very popular during Navratri, the same is called Shat Chandi (with associated anushthan pujan etc.) Vindhyachal Peetha is a mojor seat of Mata Shri Durga in UP and it happens to be one of the Shaktipeethas. Hope rest of the guidance you get from the Gita Press edition of the book itself. Regards, Shri Krishnarpanamastu. Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha Dear Pranav, Namaste Some of the Durga Saptashati (700) mantras are listed in VRA - Sanjay Rath. Though it is not specifically mentioned. It entails the worship of Shakti - Durga Devi which is considered as the top treatise which yields instant results in kali-yuga. Extracted from the Markandeya Purana - (Parimal Publications publishes this in Sanskrit and English which I will put on my website soon) spread over 13 chapters. According to what I have been taught, it can be used for akarshana etc. and does not necessarily have to be offered during Navaratri days. love, Swee > |om gurave namah | Respected Gurujis, > > I have heard a lot about Durga saprastuti; what is Durga saptastuti? > What is its significance in vedic astrology?
