Mark Kincaid ---------- H S Viswanadham <vishwanatham vedic astrology [vedic astrology] Planets in Rasi Sandhi Sun, Nov 2, 2003, 8:09 AM Hare Rama Krishna Dear Gurus & other learned members, Planets placed in Rasi Sandhis tend to destroy the houses owned by them. Are there any exceptions to this? Like, planets which are placed in Vargottama amsa? Could any one please clarify. With much regards viswanadham Sponsor Terms of Service <> . Dear All..... One of the most important principles in Jyotish that I think is sorely missed sometimes is the fact that our charts represent our potential as well as our conditions, destiny or fate. In other words, we have tremendous potential in life to grow and improve which is often missed in Astrology. Because in life we're keenly aware that we're here to grow and evolve. Why not in and through our charts? Perhaps it is because we don't realize how. But, when I first realized that the 'malefics' in my chart, like Planets in Sandhis.....were just situations, to be improved; I felt tremendous empowerment. Take for example the present situation that we're in where the Sun's Debilitated in Libra. When you meet people with such placements you can see their conditions. They're often lacking in Self-confidence and in the ability to both believe in themselves and manifest 'willful' change and manifest destiny which a stronger Sun, type of person, so spontaneously exhibits. Well, there is great news because Jyotish belongs to a whole family of Vedic Sciences which have as their primary function to improve and unfold a person's potential. We have that phrase in Jyotish, 'remedial measures', and I believe this means we can improve not only our life situations but our charts as well. Now, let's imagine how a person could both have certain planets in Sandhi and why this might mean that the Houses which are owned by them, are poorly influenced by their Lord being in the 'gaps' so to speak. Let's say that a person has the Sun in Sandhi, in say, Gemini, moving between the 29th degree of Gemini and the first moments of Cancer. And let's say the person has a Leo Rising so their first House, itself will be the weakened House. Can anything be done? Or is it the person's 'fate' to suffer the results of their past karmas, only? Well, yes, certainly anything and everything can be done. Think of our Jyotish 'afflictions' like you would a physical condition, like High Blood Pressure. We know and treat High Blood Pressure as a physical ailment that can be improved with various means. Now, why don't we realize and connect Jyotish to say, physical improvements. Because in fact, Jyotish represents the mental Head of dis-ease and diseases. It's really our mental realities, ie. our Planetary situations that's truely, ultimately responsible for all of our physical situations. And if we could improve our 'Planets', then, theoretically, we should be able to improve our physical selves and situations, as well as the environments in which we live, which are after all a good definition for our Houses. Let's get back to that person with a weakened Sun in the gap, ruler of the lst House. Now, the symptoms will be clear. Now only does the person exhibit weakened Self-confidence and motivated power but their physical presence, their bodies even, being representative of the lst House, will also be weak! But, forever? No! Remember we've come to improve our lives and our situations, and what better area is Vedic Knowledge totally prepared for improving if not the Self! or the Sun! Take the Upanishads for example. Too often, thought of as wonderful poems and literature. But, the Upanishads can also be thought of as Self-empowering Vedic tools or techniques. In the West, Mental affirmations and prayers have become fairly popular, lately. At the root of Mental affirmations is the Mind & Body of anyone who's body and mind's could be directly improved by such a mental exercise. Now, in the Upanishads, quite often the theme is literally, about the Self! The Self, within is not just a weakened situation or even one of Individual power. But, the Self, within, is called Brahman! And the Upanishads say: 'I Am That' and 'Thou are That' and 'All This is That' As an expression of the full potential of the Self, and yes, the Sun!, within us. So, when we 'reflect' on these things, or even get inspired to practice Meditation, for example, which is even seen as a direct experience of that Unbounded Self.... then... the Self within does change. It gets stirred, it gets strengthened and it gets deeply empowered or developed! So, then, what happens when one improves oneSelf, in this way or really in any way? Well, not only do our Planets improve but the significations that they're involved with, also change! So, let's put our attention not only on the, what I like to call.... 'the 1 to 1' correspondence between our Jyotish, our Charts, and our lives.... But, let's put much more attention on our Jyotish Remedies, and what we can do to improve ourselves and our charts. When I first started reading Jyotish books I was very surprised that there were say, 195 pages on the Jyotish part, and how our charts fit us; and only 5 pages on remedial measures and what we can do to improve ourselves. Perhaps it is one of the positive influences of the West, because we want so much to be able to grow and improve ourselves and our situations... that we may be encouraging the Wisdoms of the East to focus more on these remedial measures. In any case, I hope that we can focus more on what we can do to change any and every situation in our Jyotish charts, because that is the true situation in life. Our human physiologys are full of the drive, vim and vigor to want to grow and to improve. It's indeed the nature of life to grow! And Jyotish should reflect that as well! Jai Guru Mark Kincaid Oh, yes....I also like to mention for those of you who don't know, that I do a daily, Jyotish Newsletter which focuses on the daily Transits but also especially in what we can do to change and improve our Stars!
