Guest guest
Hello John; The reason for the difference is historical and fundamental: First the Nirayana system of Jyotisha uses the constellations of fixed stars to establish the zodiac in the sky with the Lahiri ephemeris as the marking star, Spica, or Chitra. Zero degrees Libra. This is the Vedic or Hindi Sidereal Zodiac the same today as it was thousands of years ago. In the west, the Astrologers clung to the equinoxes of Spring and Fall to establish Zero degrees Aries and Libra. This is the Tropical Seasonal zodiac primarily directed from the Tetrabiblios by Ptolemy 165 AD. At this time the Sun was seen in the near Zero degrees of Aries constellation sign on Spring Day in March, and zero Libra on the Fall Equinox in September. Since that time the equinoxes have continually precessed approximately one degree every 72 years mean rate backwards. Such came the Christian era of the Fish, Pisces. By the Rennaisance era the precession of the Equinoxes had the Spring day showing the Sun in the middle stars of Pisces. But western Astrologers differed the physical observation maintaining the signs of the zodiac were eternally stationed in the Ethers. In Vedic tradition the tropical zodiac is called Sayana. The difference between the Nirayana and Sayana is Ayanamsa. Which is used to convert Tropical to Sidereal coordinates, and visa versa. Hope this answers your question. Namaste, Sidereal Bob.
