Use of malas

Dear Gurus and esteemed members,

I have some questions regarding chanting of mantras using a mala those I would like to ask -

1. Is it necessary that we keep the tulsi mala in the small bag made by cloth

when we are chanting mantras by tulsi mala? I mean, can not we just keep the

mala out of the small bag [keeping exposed] and chant mantras while counting

with the mala?

2. Is it necessary that we start counting the mala from the big side?

3. Is it necessary to reverse the mala when one mala chanting is done?Best wishes,

Tanvir

Dear Mr. Tanvir:

According to what I have learned from my elders that

everything has a reason behind it.

1). Keeping Tulsi Mala in Bag : As you know Tulsi is

very Pure. Only reason any Mala kept in Bag while

Chanting and Counting -- Because it does touch the

floor or get direct contact with the certain human

body places -- I think you understand what I am trying

to say.

2.)It is doesn't matter whether you start from big or

small side -- only thing which matters is you remember

the Mala count if you are chanting Mantra's for

specific reason.

3). According to what I have learned from my elders is

that Mala is reversed to end the cycle of Mantra so

that it doesn't go to infinity...

I hope it will help you understand...

Thanks

Gautam
