I thought this article as very timely.

"A prayer is indeed more effective when it is intended for the

welfare of others, or when our intention is to gain spiritual

knowledge through sincere efforts. Prayer is not a substitute for

human frailties, unless the sincere objective of ones prayers is to

overcome such weaknesses, accompanied by genuine effort. "

Aum Shanti Shanti Shanti,

--Sanjay Aggarwal

The Divine is love and compassion in their highest form. He

therefore responds promptly to the pull of your love, in whatever

way it is conveyed, as long as the approach is sincere and

devotional. If your prayers are not responded, it is not because God

is unkind, deaf or dumb. It is because He loves you so much that He

does not want you to get hurt in some ignorant or stupid way.

God invariably responds to all our sincere prayers. This is the

experience of every genuine devotee. It is how He is. He cannot be

otherwise. All the time He is in touch with every aspect of His

creation, from within as well as without. He permits the freedom of

life to express itself. At the same time He intervenes and provides

necessary help whenever there is a genuine call from His earnest

devotees. Ever present, ever active, He never abandons anything.

It is we who tend to forget Him, distracted by the myriad

attractions of the external world and disturbed by its overwhelming

confusion. We remember Him occasionally, when we are troubled by

some difficulty or are unable to achieve something on our own. Even

then if you know how to pray, how to approach Him, how to make

yourself heard, if you have enough faith, courage and conviction in

you, you are sure to get a positive response.

Believe this, it is not God who does not listen. It is we who make

it happen. Ignorant as we are, guided by our own self made

illusions, it is we who do not know how to communicate with Him. It

is not God who does not render help. Through our egoism and

selfishness, it is we who create the barriers and prevent ourselves

from reaching across to Him.

A prayer that is filled with pure love and compassion for others is

the most effective. A prayer made in the service of others is bound

to yield positive results. And a prayer that is done without any

expectation or without any desire for the result, is indeed the

best.
