Guest guest
Hi Sanjay, excellent article. If i may add some of my own comments. If the purpose of one's life is to recognise/ realise one's true nature, then surrendering allows us to give up our ego or false identity and replace that ego as an instrument of god, whether as a servant, friend or lover. That ego serves as a deliberate use of an illusion to reach a higher goal. The illusion being that the Lord requires something from us. To someone like that Ganga is considered holy by association with the Lord. To the Gyani or the man of wisdom, everything is a manifestation of the divine and there is none but Him. To one like him, Ganga is no holier than the filthy water in the drain. The goal here is to see beyond the illusion of dualities. This might not be satisfactory to a bhakta but certainly acceptable to the gnani. Both methods however produce Vairagya or disapassion. Both are examples of surrendering and going beyond our ego associated with the 5 senses. Vivekananda has siad it as such: I realised that I am so much greater than the ideal which i was trying to acheive, where else, M the author of Gospels of Ramakrishna was well known for ending his sentence by saying "so said my master". In he case, for Vivekananda, the net of illusion was too small to hold him, while for M, he was smaller then the holes in the net. Both however appear to have escaped the net. Reg Ajith K.
