Dear friends,

Never shy of speaking out my mind, at least in Jyotish circles, I am

going to bite the bullet and speak up, at the risk of gaining a few

more barbs in my side and at the risk of offending a few more

individuals. But I must do it, because it is the decree of my karma

as someone once told me! Whether I seemingly question (some who do

not like my cyberpersona, say: I attack!) Rishis or what is doled

down to us by sanskrit pandits (even what they say then gets

questioned then by other pandits and so on ...!) or contemporary

vendors of information and knowledge whether those be readings or

other things, or write about things like these, I feel that these

unpleasant things must be expressed. A wise friend once said, "We

can broom uncertainties and unpleasant goings on under the rug but

there will come a time when we will trip over the lump we have

created in the rug!". So, from time to time, I poke my hose under

the carpet we all are standing on, so that the lump remains

manageable! I am not here to do a radical surgery on the 'lump'! So,

no need for anaesthesia!

There are 1597 members at this site and that is a large slice of

internet savvy jyotishis, comprising experienced jyotishis and

jyotish students, but when it comes to response to questions like:

How many have experienced a reading, what has been their experience,

or software they have used, or specific issues, or even quizes that

poor Tanvir and others bring to bear <and it all takes time, folks>

we face a relative silence and even a void at times! If one were to

do a statistical analysis here, one would find that reading requests

would probably take up a lion's share of the oodles of MB that

Tanvir has invested and is planning to invest as indicated earlier

in his message. This despite his request not to turn this into a

shop for readings. My own experience with PleaseExplain on

Astroexpert.com had been identical. Many more are interested in

readings and knowing about themselves and a few about their loved

ones rather than actually being interested in astrology. There is a

lot of hunger but no desire to go into the business of feeding

others!

Please do not take this as a criticism. Unless you are fed to a

certain extent and satiated, you cannot begin to feed others. If the

astrologer is constantly worried about his or her chart and

uncertain about what will happen, come tomorrow, how can a doctor

that is distressed and weighed down by his own maladies even gain

the composure to distance himself from his own sufferings and begin

to help others?

There is a lot of confusion in jyotish, more so in the last five to

ten years than before. Before, it was a hidden craft, few avenues to

discuss it, but then came internet and information exploded. Mind

you, this old guy is choosing his words carefully! I did not say,

knowledge!

The sincerity, the passion, the joy that jyotish demands and brings

to an individual soul, be they client or practitioner, are rare,

even when thousands and millions have now the opportunity to embrace

the craft and to be led to or arrive at the cool, refreshing

mountain brook that flows through our times. The water (in a

chemical sense!) is still pure, as water always was and will be. But

water is a superb solvent and it will absorb, and dissolve all that

comes to it willingly (water-soluble impurities). Caveat emptor!

Dear Rohini ji,

Number of members may be 1500 or so. But many people become member

just for the sake of it, and then are never able to contribute or

write something. Active members may be hardly 100 and superactive

may be 20 or so.
