Guest guest
~ Om Namah Shivaya ~ Dear List Members, Following are the remedies for saturn: 1) Recite Rudram Chamakam - It is to be recited daily morning after taking a bath. One has to face towards east and has to recite 11 times. 2) Mantra - There are two mantras. First one is "Om Sham Shanischaraya Namah" and Second one "Om Praam Preem Prome Sah Shanicharyah Namah". Generally one of them will suit most of the people. Recite the one for couple of days and you will get to know which one suits you best. 3) Stone - Wear Blue Sapphire (Neelam) in right hand middle finger on saturday. Before wearing neelam, check your horoscope to see whether the native can wear it or not. It is very reactive stone and should be worn *only after testing* 4) Lighting Lamp - This Remedy must be done outside home. Light two lamps in mustard (sarson) oil. One in front of shanidev and the second one near peepal tree. The lamps should be lighter after sunset. 5) Dontaion - Donate 1.25 Kg black pulse (kaale Urad) and 1.25 metre black cloth on saturday. Do it seven times (i.e. 7 Saturdays). 6) Worship Lord Naryana - "Om Namo Naryanaya" is the mantra. Recite it 108 times. Guest guest
~ Om Namah Shivaya ~ Rudram Chamakam is given in "Vedic Remedies in Astrology" by Shri Sanjay Rath Ji (Page 170). It is given in sanskrit and transliteration is given in english, so it will be easy. Also we have rudram chamakam audio in JR files. Listening to audio, reading transliteration in english, I hope you can do it by a little bit of practice else you can just listen to the audio file daily. Guest guest
Dear Amit, You can do mantra chanting of deities and hanuman chalisa is one such effective remedy. Reading Nala maha charitam is also effective for saturn. One more sloka is also there recited by Dasarath Maharaja supposed to be written and recited at the request of sani dev himself when dasarath maharaja went to fight with him to protect his kingdom....during the time of saturn's transit through the rohini star....(saturn's transit through the rohini is believed to be worst phase....)..if u come across the sloka...let me know also....it is in sanskrit and old sloka... Worship of Lord Iyyappa is also one of the remedial way though this aspect requires much deeper study and research becoz...the disciplined way of life advised for worship of lord iyyappa is akin to saturn's way....and have more similarities and may be more effective also...still needs to understand the real tattva behind the worship of lord iyyappa for saturn. sriganeshh , "ak_131" <ak_131> wrote: > Dear Sir, > Can we do diety mantra chant as the remedies? can hanuman chalisa > be an option because it can also reduce the bad effects of mars(if > they are bad).. Guest guest
Do "Om Namo Narayanaya" and "Om Namah Shivaya" then. Here in an audio file I have tried to do the pronunciation of Chamakam, you can check it out too. Guest guest
Hello Amit ji, I am coming up with my new site where you will get a complete reference for all the deities of planets, of course in my view because opinions differ in this regard. What I recommend and apply is only what I see to work in my experience in my life as well as others' lives. Vishnu is for Mercury. For saturn pray to Narayana, Shiva, Krishna. Guest guest
Hi All, Namaste. Though my knowledge is limited, my 2-cents worth of inputs on Saturn Remedies. Basically the remedies fall into 3 groups - to Lord Hanuman, to Lord Shiva and to Shani himself. 1. Lord Hanuman a.. Last year, I was advised to offer 1kg of Til Oil (Gingeley oil) to Hanuman Temple on 12 Saturdays after sunset. The oil must be accompanied by Tamboola (Betel Leaves, nuts) and if possible a rupee/dollar coin. I was advised not to pray for any specific outcome - just prostrate, do the offer and come back. b.. I have seen Hanuman Chalisa is also prescribed as remedy for Saturn. c.. Sometimes, Panchmukhi (or Ekadashamukhi) Hanumat Kavacham is prescribed to be chanted daily or at least on Saturday. This is preferably done after Hanumat Puja (Ashtottara/Sahasranama) 2. Lord Shiva a.. I have heard that Rudram, like Devi Mahatmyam, should never be attempted without proper initiation by a Sat Guru. I was told these words came from Sri. Sringeri Acharya himself. b.. Mrutyunjaya Mantra Japam is often prescribed. I was advised to chant the mantram for 28 times standing on a wooden plank facing north for 40 days twice a day after bath. Some people also advise Mrutyunjaya Homam. c.. Chant Shiva Sahasranamam for 40 days facing north. One could also augment with Mrutyunjaya stutis like Mrutyunjaya stotram, Mrutyunjaya kavacham etc. d.. In Tamil there is a 10-stanza stuti called "Pachchai Pathigam" by ThiruGYAna Sambandhar. This poem is sung in praise of Lord of Thiru Nallar (Shani Parihara Sthalam near Karaikkal, Tamil Nadu, India). This is believed to be an effective remedy for Saturn doshas. For those interested, this has been published in the recent issue of the magazine "GYAna Alayam". e.. Sometimes, wearing a specific Rudraksha is prescribed (e.g. 14-mukhi) 3. Shanaishcara a.. Visit Navagraha shrines and do archana on Saturdays. b.. Chant Shani stutis (e.g. Ashtottaram, Sahasranamam, Kavacham, etc.) daily - or at least on Saturday. LIFCO has published a book in Tamil containing many of Shani Stutis. c.. Donate Sesame Seeds/Black Cloth on Saturday. Sometimes donating Black Urad Dal, Iron Vessels etc. d.. Wear Blue sapphire or alternatives (after thorough analysis of the chart) e.. In extreme cases, Shani Shanti Homa/Yajnas are also prescribed. This may even involve donation of animals. But there are different versions as to which rememy(ies) is/are more efficacious. Perhaps it would be wonderful if learned people could share their experience/knowledge in this regard. Thanks & Regards, Murali
Guest guest
Dear Murali, That is much more than 2 cents worth, more like 2 million dollars worth of input :-) You have comprehensively covered this subject! Guest guest
Hello Murali ji, A really good post for remedies. We can add a few more to the basket. Apart from the below reciting the following dasanama stotra of Shani by Dasharatha near a Pepal tree is also a highly recommended one. Guest guest
Hello Murali and Gaurav, thanks for your postings...i refer to my earlier posting on saturn remedies...Gaurav...thanks to Dasaratha stotra..but it contains 11 two line stanza totalling 22 lines....full stotra is very powerful remedy...please find and get it....for the benefit of all of us...the same has been published long back in one tamil magazine namely Narasimhapriya... Muralji...u r absolutely right the vedic chants like rudram and chamakam requires initiation otherwise it is rendered useless for the reciter..The view is confirmed not only by sringeri sankaracharya but also by maha periyaval sri kamakoti sankaracharya sri chandrasekarendra saraswathi swamigal....the astrologer while suggesting remedies should take into consideration these things rather than plainly suggesting something which may not work the way intended... In fact there is one stotra in tamil called "KOLARU PATHIGAM...written by periya sankaracharya sri chandrasekara saraswathi swamigal himself during the 1966 PLANETARY CRISIS....it is effective sloka to overcome all the planetary influences. Guest guest
Dear sreelathaji, I differ from this view of many of the people that the diety for shani is lord narayana ..i believe the athi devatha for planets are as under: Surya - Siva Chandra - Parvathi / Raja rajeshwari / sakthi Mangal - Subramanya Budha - Vishnu Guru - Brahma / Dakshinamurthy / all religious guru like shirdi baba, raghavendra, sankaracharyas etc., Sukra - lakshmi, Indra, Varuna Shani - Yama / Iyyappa Rahu - Kali, Durga, Karumariamma Ketu - Ganapathi / sandikeshwarar In that case..where lord narayana comes as lord of shani dev...taking sani's real name of sanieswar....there is some logic missing......second thing is i believe yama is one of the ashtatik balar deva and being lord of life also...why can't we recite yama's stotra to get over the ill effects....in sanskrit there is ashtatik balar stotram ...just waiting for your valuable inputs.. For your info..vaishnavaities in the south, recite Koormaavatar stotra in the dasavathara stotram as a remedy for shanidev. sriganeshh , "Venkatarama Sreelatha" <venkatarama_sastry> wrote: > Just thought of another angle, to add to the wonderful post from > Murali and Gaurav. Guest guest
Dear Sriganesh, There are two lists of dieties for the grahas. The list from Maharshi Parasara is the one you mentioned that Vaishnavaites use, and maps the navagrahas to the 9 past incarnations of Vishnu. (The tenth one is yet to come, so it is out of this scheme for now.) Quoting from Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra, "From Sûrya the incarnation of Ram, from Candr that of Krishn, from Mangal that of Narasimh, from Budh that of Buddha, from Guru that of Vaman, from Úukr that of Parashuram, from Úani that of Kurma (Tortoise), from Rahu that of Varah (Pig) and from Ketu that of Meen (Fish) occurred." The other list is from Jaimini, and gives Siva for Surya, Gouri for Chandra, Subrahmanya for Mars, Vishnu for Mercury, Siva again for Jupiter, Lakshmi for Venus, Vishnu again for Shani, Durga for Rahu and Ganesha for Ketu. So, basically two grahas for Vishnu and Shiva and one each for the others. There are many other interpretations, for instance, a combination of Mercury and Moon indicates Radhakrishna (moon indicating charming the mind, and mercury indicating the beautiful child) etc. And, even though both Jupiter and Surya indicate Shiva, for instance, Jupiter is Shiva in the form of a teacher (wisdom), Lord Dakshinamurthy, while Surya is Shiva in the form of the father, Parameswara. Similarly for the two that Vishnu rules. My interpretation is that the lists from Parashara and Jaimini are great starting points, and there is nothing stopping you from adding on to the lists. After all, all dieties are the same, ultimately, they are all forms of the same Divine. Now, coming to Yama... Yama, Indra, etc are the Asta Dikpaalakas, the rulers of the eight directions. Yes, they are associated with the grahas too. Each graha has a direction, a color, a time etc etc, and since there are directions associated with each graha and dieties for each direction, indirectly these dieties of direction are associated with the grahas. However, I have not heard of these being worshipped for the effects of the grahas - maybe someone else has? Guest guest
Dear Sriganesh, Forgot to add this - if you want to read about all the indications of each graha (color, direction, part of body, residence etc.), read the third chapter in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. Tanvir Ji has kindly posted the entire Shastra as a Zip file in the Files section of this group. Look under the "texts" link. He has an excellent collection of other classics too, if you are interested. Dear Tanvir, thanks for maintaining so many wonderful texts here! Guest guest
Hi all, Interesting discussions. 1. I gather from books that for Shani the Ati Devata is Yama and Pratyadi Devata as Prajapati. The Lifco book also gives detailed procedure for doing Shani Japa/Homa and Puja which includes both the devatas. 2. A few more additions to the list of remedies: a. For Shani, a visit to Thiru Nallar is also prescribed. b. One can undertake Shani Mantra Japa (Sham No .. 300 times a day) c. Sometimes Lord Venkateshwara (Balaji) prayer is also prescribed. d. Reading a specific portion of Sundara Kandam of Valmiki Ramayana is also prescribed. e. In the Vaishnavite sampradaya, Lord Sudarshana is said to be an embodiment of all 9 planets and hence remedy could be done to Lord Sudarshana himself (e.g. Sudarshana Homam, or chanting stutis like Sahasranamam, Sudarshana Shatkam, Sudarshana Ashtakam, etc.) and visiting Lord Sudarshanan shrines on Thursdays/Saturdays. Panchayuta stotram, Shodasayutha stotram can also be chanted. f. There is a combined Lord Nrusimha/Sudarshana mantram which includes the Moola mantra of Lord Nrusimha in the middle flanked before and after by Sudarshanan mantram. That is also said to be an effective remedy for all planetary afflictions. Thanks & Regards, Murali , "Venkatarama Sreelatha" <venkatarama_sastry> wrote: > Dear Sriganesh, > > Forgot to add this - if you want to read about all the indications > of each graha (color, direction, part of body, residence etc.), read > the third chapter in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. Guest guest
Dear Sreelatha, i have gone through the same but somehow the reasoning part is not appealing to me and that is why i sought some advise... see for example...vaishvanite worship...the logic seems to be there...as they believe only in Perumal ie., vishnu..but others...it shld be different... otherwise i fully agree with you that we should arrive at our own as all are different forms of the same god... thanks...for update and valuable input making me explore something new.... sriganesh , "Venkatarama Sreelatha" <venkatarama_sastry> wrote: > Dear Sriganesh, > > Forgot to add this - if you want to read about all the indications > of each graha (color, direction, part of body, residence etc.), read > the third chapter in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
