1. Introduction to Michael Laughrin's North American Jyotish Newsletter

I offer you this newsletter to enhance and deepen your experience of Vedic

Astrology. In each issue, expect to find a combination of helpful articles, book

reviews, Jyotish links and more. The purpose of this newsletter is to educate

and titillate the Jyotish-loving public. The opinions given within are solely

those of Michael Laughrin.

In this issue, I offer three different reading lists – please pick and choose

several of these books, and print out the list so you can buy some more later or

drop hints to gift-givers. Definitely consider reading the "MUST BUY" books.

Some are hard to find. I listed websites that offer the book or have links to

places you can get the book. Next month, I will talk about a fantastic

bookseller that can get you most of these titles, so hang on to these lists!

I also discuss three "seers" who have the gift of second sight. Clearly, their

senses are refined to the point that they can detect information beyond the

normal 5 senses. They may be able to help you with any questions and problems

you have. Also, I recommend an architect who builds according to Natural Law,

and an email service.

"Thanks for [the] newsletter...it's generously informative and a

pleasure to read!" – a reader

Please visit my website at http://www.jyotish.ws at your convenience. I offer

Traditional/Classical Vedic Astrology, Intuitional Jyotish (Vedic Astrology

based on deep intuition), Chakra Readings, and Advanced Structured Psychic Work

(for deeper interpretation of your karmic pattern).

2. Michael Laughrin's Favorite Jyotish Books Suitable for Beginners (In Order of

Importance, 2004, www.jyotish.ws)

By Michael Laughrin, Michael

1. "Fundamentals of Astrology" by M.R. Bhat. This volume contains much

wonderful information including determining career; many ways to analyze

transits; longevity; marriage; disease and Ashtakavarga. <offered at:

www.vedicweb.com>

2. "My Experiences in Astrology" by B.V. Raman (also called "Autobiography of a

Vedic Astrologer"). It reads like a novel but has more different techniques of

Jyotish (and numerology) than you can shake a stick at. Every lover of the

Divine Science should read this book every year. <offered at:

www.astroamerica.com and www.vedicweb.com>

3. "Introduction to Esoteric Astrology" by Bepin Behari. There is a huge chapter

delineating the deep meaning of each ascendant. One could give a great reading

just from the rising sign information in this book! <offered at:

www.vedicweb.com>

4. "Significators in Astrology" by Shiv Chadha is an earth-shaking tome. A book

like this is published no more than once per generation. It is full of meanings

of each planet, sign and star. <offered at: www.vedicweb.com>

5. "Light on Life: An Introduction To The Astrology Of India" by Hart de Fouw

and Robert Svoboda is the best of the modern Jyotish books (in the opinion of

this reviewer) for useful chart analysis for serious practitioners of the

Science of Light. <offered at: www.vedicweb.com and www.astroamerica.com>

6. "Practical Vedic Astrology" by G. S. Agarwal is a mini-encyclopedia of

Jyotish including mantras, dashas, planets, signs and more. You must have it on

your bookshelf unless you plan to own 100 Jyotish books or more. <offered at:

www.vedicweb.com and www.astroamerica.com>

7. "Astrology, Destiny and the Wheel of Time" by K. N. Rao is a modern classic

by one of India's most famous astrologers and the head of the largest astrology

school in the world (in New Delhi). Mr. Rao has a very organized mind and his

clear, logical approach to Jyotish is given in this volume. <offered at:

www.vedicweb.com and www.astroamerica.com>

8. "Predictive Astrology of the Hindus" by G.K. Ojha contains much useful

knowledge of the heavenly study presented in clear, lucid English. <offered at:

www.fetchbook.info >

9. "Predictive Astrology" by Dinesh S. Mathur gives full meanings of each planet

in each house. <offered at: www.fetchbook.info>

10. "Planets in the Signs and Houses" by Bepin Behari is the ultimate Jyotish

cookbook in that it gives specific interpretations of each planet in each sign

in each house. <offered at: www.vedicweb.com>

11. "Planets" by Michael Laughrin is similar in organizational style to "Planets

in the Signs and Houses" but Mr. Laughrin is an American and gives Jyotish a

Western slant. Also included in this volume are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

<offered at: www.astroamerica.com and www.jyotish.ws>

Note: Some of these books are out-of-print and difficult to find. You can try

bookstores that specialize in out-of-print books. I listed places I found each

book. On-line, www.astroamerica.com carries most of the Jyotish books listed

here (click Author Index or Title Index); www.vedicweb.com has many Jyotish

books (searching by the primary author's last name is usually the most

effective). Failing that, www.fetchbook.info has price comparisons for many of

these books and links to different on-line book dealers. Occasionally, you may

find one of the books at the more popular on-line booksellers.

3. Michael Laughrin's Favorite Modern Books Suitable for Intermediate and

Advanced Students (In Order of Importance, 2004, www.jyotish.ws)

By Michael Laughrin, Michael

1. "New Techniques of Prediction" by H.R. Seshadri Iyer. If you only buy one

advanced book (not counting the classics), this is the one to buy. Mr. Iyer has

a clear mathematical mind (he was trained as a mathematician) and he tells how

to interpret varga (divisional) charts, genuine knowledge of each house, tithis,

transits and the best method of predicting through the Hindu progressed chart

(Varshaphal chart). MUST BUY. <offered at: www.astroamerica.com>

2. "Muhurtha" by B. V. Raman. I use this little volume more than any other

astrology book other than the Ephemeris. It gives detailed information on

matching charts for purposes of marriage, picking a good starting time for a

variety of purposes and how to pick the right name for your baby based on the

time of birth. <offered at: www.astroamerica.com>

3. "Practical Horary Astrology" by Gayatri Devi Vasudev (B. V. Raman's

daughter). This simple but very practical volume outlines the proper method of

casting and interpreting Hindu Horary astrology (Prashna) charts. <offered at:

www.astroamerica.com>

4. "Astrology in Predicting Weather and Earthquakes" by B. V. Raman is very

useful for this all but forgotten aspect of traditional astrology. <offered at:

www.astroamerica.com>

5. "Medical Astrology: A Rational Approach" by J.N. Bhasin clearly outlines how

to determine probable health challenges in an individual's chart and when they

might occur. MUST BUY. <offered by: www.vedicweb.com and

http://www.Vedic Astrology.org/books.htm>

6. "Essentials of Medical Astrology" by Dr. K.S. Charak. The author is a

medical doctor and good astrologer whose dual expertise benefits the Jyotish

reading public. (I must point out that gaining true expertise in predicting

disease and cure is a great art that requires personal training from one is who

is very learned and experienced in this ability.) <offered by: www.vedicweb.com>

7. "The Greatness of Saturn: A Therapeutic Myth" by Robert Svoboda is

recommended for anyone who has felt Lord Shani's "bite." Knowledge is power.

Reading this book will help one learn how to work with (and not against)

Saturn's energy. <offered by: www.vedicweb.com>

8. "Applied Astrology" by K. N. Rao and Meenakshi Raut has some extraordinary

knowledge concerning weather prediction by a master in the field. <hard to find>

9. "Hindu Astrology Lessons" edited by Richard Houck has over 25 different

authors, each giving a simple, useful Jyotish technique that can be applied by

the serious student of Jyotisha. <offered by: www.astroamerica.com>

10. "Planets and Children" by K. N. Rao is the best book available concerning

astrology and children. Specifically, Mr. Rao deals with many astrological

considerations concerning childbirth: fertility, infertility, curses that

prevent childbirth, etc. (Note: The potential mother's chart and the potential

father's chart must be examined to get a clear indication of future children.

Rao offers some remedial measures to help couples that want children. (Note:

This book does not deal with the child's chart after it is born; normal rules of

Jyotish interpretation apply to the child's chart after birth.) <offered by:

www.astroamerica.com and www.vedicweb.com>

11. "Core Yogas: Yokes to the Fruits of Karmas" by Ernst Wilhelm. See my review

in my May 2004 newsletter at

http://www.jyotish.ws/wisdom/review_core_yogas.html. <offered by:

www.vedic astrology.net and www.vedicweb.com>

12. "Astrology of Death" by Richard Houck deals with this important area of

astrology using techniques from both Eastern and Western astrology. <offered by:

www.astroamerica.com>

Note: Some of these books are out-of-print and difficult to find. You can try

bookstores that specialize in out-of-print books. I listed places I found each

book. On-line, www.astroamerica.com carries most of the Jyotish books listed

here (click Author Index or Title Index); www.vedicweb.com has many Jyotish

books (searching by the primary author's last name is usually the most

effective). Failing that, www.fetchbook.info has price comparisons for many of

these books and links to different on-line book dealers. Occasionally, you may

find one of the books at the more popular on-line booksellers.

4. Michael Laughrin's Favorite Metaphysical Books (Alphabetical by Author, 2004,

www.jyotish.ws)

By Michael Laughrin, Michael

"Esoteric Christianity" by Annie Besant will be of interest to those who wish to

see the connections between Christianity and Vedic knowledge. Ms. Besant was

one of the leaders of the Theosophical movement of about 120 years ago. <offered

by: www.fetchbook.info, search on ISBN: 0766100995>

"Essentials of Numerology" by Narendra Desai is a pithy little book that is all

muscle and reveals many useful techniques of classical numerology based on the

English language. Narendra was perhaps the best astrologer I have ever met.

Alas, he is no longer with us on this earthly coil. <out of print, hard to find>

"Esoteric Philosophy of Love and Marriage" by Dion Fortune reveals the hidden

forces at play concerning sexuality, love, and attraction. It also reveals much

of the underlying philosophy prevalent in English metaphysical groups of about

100 years ago. <offered by: www.amazon.com>

"Daughters of the Goddess: The Women Saints of India" by Linda Johnsen gives

brief but wonderful mini-biographies based on the author's experience with a

number of modern day female saints. <offered by: www.fetchbook.info>

"Maharaj" by T. S. Anantha Murthy is a biography of Shriman Tapasviji Maharaj,

an Indian saint who lived for 185 years and performed many miracles. This book

is endlessly inspirational. MUST READ <offered by: www.fetchbook.info>

"Magus of Strovolos: The Extraordinary World Of A Spiritual Healer " by Kyriacos

C. Markides is the true-life account of a 20th century "man of knowledge" who

lived on Cyprus and performed many healings and miracles. Also many deep

psychic phenomena are explained in this book. <offered by: www.fetchbook.info>

"Yogis, Destiny and the Wheel of Time" by K. N. Rao is a wonderful, contemporary

volume that has chapters on many of modern India's living treasures – her

saints. <offered by: www.vedicweb.com>

"The Complete Ascension Manual for the Aquarian Age: How to Achieve Ascension in

This Lifetime, Vol. 1" by Joshua David Stone is part of the Western occult

tradition. He nicely links together all major religions and tells the story of

life, higher states of consciousness and enlightenment from a fresh (to most of

us) perspective. <offered by: www.fetchbook.info>

"Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda. I seldom read any book more

than once, but I have read this book 6 times. This classic is simple enough for

a schoolboy but profound enough for an advanced yogi. MUST BUY <offered by:

www.vedicweb.com>

"Science of Being and Art of Living: Transcendental Meditation" by Maharishi

Mahesh Yogi sings the song of life using fresh, modern language that can be

understood by any literate reader. MUST READ <offered by: www.fetchbook.info>

Note: Some of these books are out-of-print and difficult to find. You can try

bookstores that specialize in out-of-print books. I listed places I found each

book. www.fetchbook.info has price comparisons for many of these books and links

to different on-line book dealers. Occasionally, you may find one of the books

at the more popular on-line booksellers.

5. Recommended Seers

By Michael Laughrin, Michael

"Seers" are people who are sensitive enough to perceive beyond the 5 senses.

Since I can "see" the chakras from remote, you might call me a seer. I want to

introduce you to three other "seers" who are offering services that may be

helpful to you.

Carl Eklund was born in Sweden and has lived in the United States most of his

adult life. He has been using meditation and other spiritual development

techniques for over 30 years. He can see people's chakras. Also, more

importantly, he "sees" spirit beings that are influencing you either for good or

ill. And he can move them out (painlessly) and help to clean up your energy

field. And he does it all over the phone - long distance. His phone number is

(541) 535-2979 and his cell phone number is (818) 749-6572. He currently resides

in Oregon.

Another seer is a very fine medical intuitive who sees the doshas and subdoshas

of each person's Ayurvedic structure. Then he sees which herb or which herbal

combination will work for you. Again, all over the phone. It is not necessary to

see him in person. However, he does not want his contact information be given

out in this newsletter. If you feel moved to try him, call me and I will give

you the information. My business phone: number is (440) 582-9848; and my cell

phone number is (440) 263-2159

Damion Kirk is a very fine "seer" of the first order. He has the ability to

"see" your Akashic record over the phone. It is unbelievable. I highly recommend

him and suggest that all of you get a reading from him. His phone number is

(720) 339-6992.

6. Build Your Home or Office In Accord With the Laws of Nature: Michael Borden,

Shtapatya Veda Architect

By Michael Laughrin, Michael

Michael Borden is an architect who is fully trained in the ancient art of Vastu

or Shtapatya Veda. His guru is Dr. Ganapati Shtapati of Chennai, who is

considered to be the world's greatest expert on traditional Vastu.

Living in a house that is in accord with all the Laws of Nature entirely changes

one's life. Michael Borden designed our house. I cannot find enough good

things to say about him. Check him out at: www.vastu-design.com or call (641)

472-2157.

7. New: Email Offers Plenty of Storage

By Michael Laughrin, Michael

I highly recommend getting a email account. recently started

offering 100 MB (megabytes) of storage for each free email account. This means

you can store lots of emails without filling up your Inbox. Few, if any, other

free email services offer this much space. I heard that Google may offer 1 GB of

space (gigabytes, which is about 10 times as much as offers for free).

However, Google's service has not been announced yet, and it may not have all

the other good points that 's email has.

's ads are very limited. And you can send and receive files up to 10 MB in

size. The free virus filtering, SpamGuard, and address blocking are fantastic.

Since the email is browser-based, you can check your email from anywhere.

If you need more features, you can pay to upgrade your mail account.

However, the basic, free account is great! If you want to switch, you can

possibly forward your emails from your regular account to your new account

automatically – with 100 MB of storage, deleting messages will no longer be a

daily chore!
