This one's about the "Philosophy of Astrology; Past, Present & Future." I used to say, I learned the most Astrology/Jyotish, when I started studying the daily Transits. Hence, my Star reports! But, recently I've realized I've learned even more in trying to describe and teach Astrology to others. So, this Philosophy of Astrology came to me as an important 'idea', because there is something very precious and profound happening in the entire field of Jyotish/Astrology today, and the cool part is that we 'all' are an important part of that change! In the Past, Astrology was an interesting mix of Astronomy and Astrology, alike. In both the West and East, when people looked at the Stars, not only were they trying to figure out the meanings of the Stars, but they were also trying to physically track their movements as well. Nobody really knows how the knowledge of Astrology developed, whether it spread from the East, or spread from the West, however there is one interesting aspect of Jyotish which I find credible. In the East, especially in regards to the so-called, 'Vedic Knowledge', there is the concept of 'cognition'. In fact, all of the 'hymns' of the Ved, which are the source of all the Knowledge and Philosophies of Ved, are supposed to come from personal 'cognitions' of individual 'Seers'. I find this especially fascinating because of my meditative, consciousness background. I can easily understand how one could directly, 'cognize', different aspects of Life's Knowledge, through one's own Consciousness. JYOTISH, is supposed to be one such cognition. Not that people only looked up at the stars, and formulated the rules, but that they looked within themselves and directly discovered them, inside, like laws of nature. In the Present; we live in such a fascinating time of Jyotish & Astrology. Astrology has been practiced now, for many hundreds and even thousands of years in the West, and even more years, perhaps in the East; but there's this incredible, 'blending' going on now, between the 2 main branches of Astrology that I especially find amazing! First of all, I find it interesting that both systems agree on much of the basics of Astrology and even the Astrology chart. o #1, both believe that the Astrology chart is an accurate snap-shot into the inner workings, even the soul of anyone being born on the Earth. This central idea, itself, I've realized is one of the most fascinating aspects of Astrology, ever! Those of us, who are more 'in-to' Astrology kind of take this for granted, and those who have had their 'charts' 'done', and have had a number of Jyotish or Astrology, 'ahas', about themselves, easily can relate to this profound realization! In fact, in my new Jyotish book, this is the primary lst theme of the book.I call it the '1 to 1 Correspondence'; that there exists an amazing 1 to 1 correlation between all the details of one's life, Physiology, Personality, Psychology, Relationship, Tendencies, Qualities, Strengths & Weaknesses, and all the details of one's Astrological Chart! This 'realization' itself, I believe, will be heralded in the future as a very profound Wisdom of Astrology and eventually cherished, by many more millions of people. So, there are these fascinating similarities between the two Astrologys, Western & Eastern, but there's also this incredible 'blending' going on between the two systems, as well. When I first started studying Jyotish, over 16 years ago, now, there was not much of this 'blending' going on, yet. If you picked up a Western book, there was a decidedly 'Westernized' quality to it, and when you picked up an Eastern one, there was this uniquely 'Eastern' quality, there as well. The Western books were much more Psychological in their analysis, whereas the Eastern books, very much more slanted towards, 'fate', and a kind of intense 'negativity' that I found surprising. Then something happened that I think very dramatically reflected that innate 'blending' that was going on. Many Westerners, even Western Astrologers, who were discovering Jyotish, began to write about it for Western audiences. Who can forget the now, famous, James Braha book called "Ancient Hindu Astrology for the Modern Western Astrologer". In this book, he was very accurate in being able to describe all the fascinating rules and principles of Jyotish. However, there was not the intensely fatalistic or negative qualities of previous Eastern Astrology books. Other Westerners quickly followed like David Frawley in his "Astrology of the Seers", and Hart Defouw and Robert Svoboda, in their book: "Light on Life, an Introduction to the Astrology of India." Now, I realize there has occurred this amazing 'blending' of the perhaps, the 'best' of both the Western & Eastern traditions. In the East, there are these profound understandings about how Astrology works, and especially the Predictive capabilities, called the Dasa programs which can predict what the qualities of the future will be like. This unique aspect of Eastern Astrology has had a decidedly powerful effect on many Western Astrologers which have found this Principle to be very charming in it's simplicity and profundity. >From the Western system, perhaps, coming from the Western mind, or 'Experience', there has been also this dramatic 'blending' of the Western belief in free will, change and transformation. Westerners believe that we can 'change' our futures, in fact, the whole History of migration from Europe to the Americas, over the last 200 years, has been a complete 'transformation' from the stodgy beliefs of the past, into a more bright hopefulness of change in the future. Today, now, we begin to see people referring to a kind of equal marriage between freedom and determinism. In the old days, of the Eastern books, for example; there would be 195 pages on all the different aspects of the Jyotish, and then, tacked on at the end, like a kind of after thought, would be only 5 pages of 'Remedial Measures'. Now, we're much more apt, to see a more balanced 'blending' between the rules and formulas of the Astrological Principles, and the transformative, and powerful healing and remedial technologies, that to me, are truely at the very heart of 'True' Astrology. In the Future, we'll discover a profound marriage of the powerful predictive capabilities of Astrology and the ever-important, Principles and practical Prescriptions of the Transformation and Remedial Measures. Astrology Today and in the Future. Today, I'm very happy to be involved in this process of taking the best of the Western and the Eastern systems. I find it especially fascinating, to discover, in the daily Transits, an amazing 'verification' of the power and Principles of Jyotish. One of the first times this happened, I was watching the Moon move into the same sign as Saturn. I knew the Astrological idea that this 'conjunction' would reflect a kind of depressing, loss quality coming from Saturn, so it was not too surprising to find that also, was my experience. Then, however, I noticed that when the Moon moved, immediately to the next Sign, that 'Saturnish', quality quickly dissipated. Then, a few days later, I forgot actually, but the Moon moved into the next Sign, and all of a sudden I again, felt those Saturnish qualities, coming back. I felt kind of sad, confused, and even kind of ill. Then I remembered the Principle. 'Oh, right, the 3rd House aspect of Saturn!' Then, I got it. 'Oh, my god, we can experience and verify these Principles of Jyotish within ourselves as well as out there, in the environments of Nature!'.... That was the beginning of a huge shift in Jyotish & Astrology for me. Now only did Jyotish work, but it was meant to be combined with a more practical, and transformative, hopeful Astrology like of the West, to produce or reflect the 'true' Astrology of Nature. In that 'true' Astrology, even the Principles of Western Science, meaning testing, and validating, can be utilized to show oneself that these ideas and Principles do, in fact, work. Nature's Astrology. This is why I came up with this name: Nature's Astrology, to try and give expression to the need of combining the 'best' of both the Western and Eastern systems. As it turns out, it is already existing 'there' in Nature, herself, and therefore is not an idea, really, but an expression of what is real and profound, 'out there'. This means that what is true in Nature, as well as what is true, within ourselves, can be verified and validated, by even the practical tools of modern Western science. Think about it, any of the ideas and Principles of Jyotish can be easily verifiable. Take the Moon for example. The Moon is supposed to be a reflection of the emotional strength or maturity within every person. The size, and the 'quality' of the Moon, in one's Chart, is supposed to be a reflection of the emotional power of every person. Well, take a 1,000 people, then, go through the phone book, even, and ask them a simple battery of questions determined to discover the emotional strength within, and then, correlate to their Jyotish charts. We'll discover an extremely high correlation between their emotional strengths, and the strengths or positives of their Moon's on the day of their births. Like that, every Principle of Jyotish can and should be studied, and eventually verified even by modern science. We live in the times of modern science. To me, I believe, God created this scientific age so we could have some system of analysis, where we could find out which theories or ideas were really true. Try to remember what it was like, pre-science. There were those who would argue whether the Earth was round or flat. Some even said, the Earth was the center of the Universe. Well the emergence of modern science put a crushing blow to all that 'ignorance'. Now, we know that the World is round and the Earth is but a small planet, circling a rather small, insignificant Sun/Star towards the end of a galaxy, which we call the Milky Way, which in it's turn, is only 1 of more then 100 billion other galaxies, which make up our 'known' Universe. But, to dismiss all of Astrology as some ancient, superstitious, kind of quackery, would be a great loss, because there is a great knowledge that is there, within Astrology. It's about the real 'whys' of our existence. And even, though, modern Western Psychology has not discovered much of the true purpose of the modern day Psychology or 'minds' of individuals; Ancient Jyotish, could in fact be called Vedic Psychology as it contains the Wisdoms, of not only what the individual minds and personalities will be like according to their births, but, also be able to link our individual minds and selves to the Cosmic Mind, and Self of the Universe which as it turns out is one of the truest purposes of Human life; to discover the Self of the Universe, within. In the Future; we'll look back and realize that this was the beginning of a true Consciousness shift in Astrology. And with the true, advent of applying the Principles of the unfoldment of Consciousness, to Astrology, we will have truely discovered the true purpose of each one of our individual Astrologys. Next, in our very next 'futures', I will describe all the practical aspects and programs and courses of 'Starlight Unlimited', and connect all these 'tools' with the broader Philosophy and Principles of this new, emerging, 'Nature's Astrology. I'd also like to thank all of you, for participating and contributing to my own Jyotish/Astrology and to also, this new field of Consciousness Astrology which is not only having a profound influence on ourselves but will also have such an influence upon our entire Human race!
