Guest guest
Dear Maniv and Tanvir, Tanvir, I read your article on cancellation of debilitated planets Thank you for posting it .. Maniv, I have found problems, as you have, with planets that are debilitated by being retrograde in their exaltation sign. This is why I keep asking the question can the debilitation of these retrograde exalted planets be cancelled? All the kind people on the list have given me lots of advice, information and examples but I am still not sure what the anwer is! Perhaps I am not as clever as I used to be and am missing the answer.... Forgive me, all, if my persistence is obnoxious or boring but I do genuinely hope for a straight yes or no answer if there is one. Guest guest
Welcome ! :-D But I did not understand what you meant in the following lines - 1. "planets that are debilitated by being retrograde in their exaltation sign" How come a planet become debilitated in it's exaltation sign? 2. Guest guest
Dear Tanvir, Thank you for your answer. I'm glad my question is finally understood. In my chart, my retrograde Jupiter in Cancer does not behave as if he is debilitated ... but then he is with Rahu in 6H which further complicates the picture I think. Guest guest
Gili, Thank you for your chart details and supplementary information. I will look into the chart tomorrow but on the surface it seems that you have on the whole benefited from the exaltation of the retrograde Jupiter in your chart – there is little indication of it behaving as if it were debilitated. It would be great if others also analyzed this chart and gave their input. Regards Maniv , "Gili Mary" <xapsarax@h...> wrote: > Dear Tanvir, > > Hope this helps your research. Guest guest
Maybe there is no straight forward answer. And the reason behind that is not that people are ignorant or trying to trick others (well not everyone, anyway!). There seems to be this 'naive' (no other way to call it otherwise) supposition or even belief in some that the factors that are utilized in jyotish are black and white, yes or no kind of factors. Factors such as are usually seen in physical sciences, pure sciences. Jyotish is more 'biological' or "epidemiological" if you catch my metaphor. So if in a given chart you try to find a "pure" status and influence of say, exalted retrograde saturn, you would not clinch a specific effect or attribute that would show up prominently in all other charts that have the same exalted retrograde saturn in the same house. This is because the planet will not only be differently influenced by other planets, but also through its nakshatra dispositor and by planets occupying its houses in the charts. You will see a blend of influences and an effect would not necessarily be equally 'dominant' in all of these sample charts. It is more difficult in jyotish to look for and trying to prove the concordance of position and effects in charts. I realize it would be a lot simpler if one could have a look-up table and simply add and average the influences and come up with readings. If that were the case, all the descriptions written in astrology texts would have come to pass (they don't) and the software would have given a better reading than humans (quite the contrary!). I will leave it at that. Good luck! Guest guest
There are so many theories about the effect of the retrograde planets. The clearest picture I have understood is that if we look at the astronomy angle - a retro planet appears to move in the opposite direction. To give this effect, it has to be going slow - so the effect is intense in the sense, it remains longer in a particular house. Now if the planet is Saturn - the person experiencing the retro effect will have to endure the stern effects of this planet for a longer time. , "Gili Mary" <xapsarax@h...> wrote: > Dear Maniv and Tanvir, > Tanvir, I read your article on cancellation of debilitated planets Thank > you for posting it > . > Maniv, I have found problems, as you have, with planets that are debilitated > by being retrograde in their exaltation sign. Guest guest
Dear Mary, As per my studies, A RETROGRESSION tries to pull back the planet from the present status backward. --If the planet is in exaltation, it is pulled back from the peak, which amounts to loss of power and if it gives a Rajayoga, the yoga is broken, which I have noted in the charts of many politicians losing their power for some reason or in election. In general, the effect of EXALTATION is diminished and of course BY WHAT AMOUNT is determined by the MODE of retrogression ie Vakra, ativakra, manda, nischala and so on. But usually, the effect is felt in mundane events rather than in individuals if the chart is not of mundane importance like that of a king. A general native chart is not FREE of its effect but meagrely affected. I remeber having read in a classical text(perhaps Uttara Kalamrita or Phaladeepikaa) a rule which can be summarised thus: 1.Exaltation + retrogression -> Loss of Power, status of no power (Shaanta Avastha) but not debility. 2.Moola trikona + retro. = Exaltation!! 3.Own house + retro. = Moola Trikona !! 4.Debility + retro --> Swakshetra or Own house!! Though slightly seems illogical, it works in practice in most of the cases ie for charts of mundane influence. Hope this may help you in finding something, yours, KAD , "Gili Mary" <xapsarax@h...> wrote: > Dear Tanvir, > > Hope this helps your research. Any questions you have please feel free to > ask. Guest guest
A lot of the propositions put forward on this matter - exalted retro becomes weak, debilitated strong etc seem to be based on the experiences of the astrologers. If this is the case would they please care to share the a few of the charts so that others can learn from them? In the charts I have seen thus far the exalted retrograde seems to maintain its power as through its exaltation rather then it diminishing. So at this stage of my research I can not agree with the propositions that are being made. Everyone seems to agree that retrograde planets move slower and thus gives their results more intensely. Then wouldn't it be logical to assume that such planets in their exaltation sign give such powerful effects more intently? Of course there are many other factors to consider (house placement, functional status, aspects, navamsa-nakshatra placement etc )and there is a never fixed answer to how such planets behave, but I feel it is possible to get a general gist of the effects through practical research. Guest guest
It is not simply that there is one statement (based on experience/empirical evidence) or not, namely, that exalted planets lose power to do good while debilitated planets gain same, when the two are retrograde. There is also another statement in scriptural texts that retrograde benefics gain strength while retro malefics become more cruel. Then one would have to add that to the retro exalted/debilitated planet for more complete consideration. Similarly, other factors would also co-apply (is the retro planet a functional benefic? Is is atmakaraka vs gnatikaraka, is it afflicted by other malefics or associated with benefics, is it playing a role in daridra arishtas or rajayogas, is it yogakaraka for the kundali). It would be very difficult to tease out all these factors and their individual merits or influences by studying a few charts alone. I just want to point out the complexity of the situation and so to not go for simple experiments or simple explanations and assume that they apply to the one factor we choose to study in a chart, when several factors may be operating at the same time with all the various levels of astroinfluence. I am not trying to discourage anyone from doing a bit of lab-work but just pointing out some of the confounding influences that astrology is full of. On the matter of velocity (apparent or real) of planets, be careful again because in the case of inferior planets (as desribed by astronomers and not astrologers), merc and venus, the planet slows down and stops at both ends, just before it retrogrades or assumes direct motion. Its speed is equally fast at the middle of its retrograde or exalted -- simply because it has to do with the vantage point we have. Guest guest
Dear ITR, Most of the practical charts I have dealt with, having retro + debilitated planet were not royal in status. BUT this one may be interesting: KANYA lagna with SATURN in MESHA and retrograde there, is really a bad combination for Longevity and health (with no other benefic aspects), the effect of which was really less in reality, compared to 8th saturn in Aries. I remember a chart of a boy who was afraid of accidental death and nothing happened especially in saturn dashaa! He had Kanya lagna, debilitated Saturn in Mesha, retrograde. Well I have many charts, let me post in future comparing with facts. yours KAD , "ITR" <itrelations> wrote: > > Dear KAD, Have you seen any practical charts (or anyone else), where > 4.Debility + retro --> Swakshetra or Own house!! > has been seen applicable in dasha of planet? > > Thanks > ITR >
