Guest guest
Dear All, What are the key planets that cause bad habits/ vices - indulgences in alcohol, drugs etc? I assume a weak Saturn/Rahu/Ketu and strong negative 2nd house influence in the chart with these planets being linked to the 1/2nd lord and some association with the 8/12th house............. Guest guest
Here I go again! Maniv, would it not be better if rather than beginning with assumptions, you collect a few charts of addicts etc and then standing on that firm platform of real cases, you develop a hypothesis, theory and do more testing, etc.? Boring and laborious as it may sound. Without that, assumptions can sometimes lead to wrong conclusions. Jyotish is full of romantic theories like that which do not stand on a firm scaffold of facts (horoscopes). Shri KN Rao often advises against the 'easy' path. If you need some data, I would direct your attention to www.astrodatabank.com where I think there is a study that was carried out in alcoholics or morphine addicts and probably has several birthdata as well. Even if the study was conducted using western astrology, the data would be helpful. THere are generally speaking more such rigorous studies done by western astrologers than indian astrologers, so they form a great source for data even if their system is different. Credit where it is due! Guest guest
Rohini, Thank you for you reply. While I fully understand the importance of the study of practical charts and avoid the route of assumption at any cost, it is somewhat difficult to actually obtain charts of individuals with a tendency to indulge in vices. This has lead me to search various texts and internet sources, including the Western Astrology site you have sent the link for (which attributes such tendencies to the influence of Neptune and 12th house /Pisces) but they leave the issue wholly ambiguous – similar to the exalted retrograde planets confusion. My point is that when undertaking the analysis of charts and making basic preliminary predictions, it is useful to have some prior knowledge of the key indications for these inclinations. As a beginner this information is essential as the luxury of intuition that experience grants is absent. Hence my request to experienced astrologers like yourself to provide an outline of the basic indications, which can then be expanded on in the practical study of charts. More appropriate would be the sharing of relevant resources (charts!), leaving me to draw my own conclusions. Jyotish for me is a voyage of discovery, an adventure which is made all the more exciting as there are so many stones left unturned – it's just that sometimes you need the wise to direct you to them stones…… Regards Maniv , "rohiniranjan" <rrgb@s...> wrote: > > Here I go again! > > Maniv, would it not be better if rather than beginning with > assumptions, you collect a few charts of addicts etc and then > standing on that firm platform of real cases, you develop a > hypothesis, theory and do more testing, etc.? Guest guest
The astrodatabank website has many charts and data. I was very clear in my message that I am asking you to visit that site for data, not the rules (which may not make any sense in jyotish). There is also the french site which has gauquelin data. A bit of internet searching is a must have skill for all serious researchers (in any field). There are also collection of charts available from several sites which are useful tools and resources. This would be way better than data collected by word-of-mouth particularly because of there being no quality control/assurance. Books and articles are not very reliable also, because often errors show up there. One has to be very careful. If I were you, I would do my homework rather than asking so called 'experts' in a field that has next to nil quality control or 'regulation'. Please do not take this wrongly, but just a word of caution, because I strongly feel about this after seeing for some decades what exists. If you ask experts, you will come up with several opinions, different pointers used by them for looking at the same effect or outcome. Draw your own conclusions!
