I read this in Shri BV Raman's "A Catechism of Astrology."

Again, from the same book. IAC, I have heard that Guru and Sani,

when exalted, cause difficulties because Sani aspects Guru with

his 10th house aspect.

Rahu/Ketu have so many exaltation and debilitation points, as

per different books. Hard to know which is true. For example,

everybody knows Guru is Uccha in Kataka and Neecha in Makara,

and nobody disputes this. For Rahu/Ketu, nobody is 100% sure.

Uccha Banga could also be stretched to mean that the full

effects are not possible. SOme time back I analyzed a chart of a

person for whom Sukra was a Yoga Karaka, and was exalted. It

would have been great if he enjoyed Sukra Dasa, but this will

only happen when he is 81! This could be called Uccha Banga too

because the Uccha nature of the planet will only materialize in

the Buktis.

 

Anything that breaks the Graha's potential is a "Banga" and this

could apply to both Uccha and Neecha grahas.

Could be. Also, sign aspects apart, Guru is in the house of a

trikonadipati, and this could also help. Fortunately, I will not

live to see Guru Dasa, because it will come when I'm a

centurion! :-) Of course, Guru Bukti in Budha Dasa will happen

sometime in mid 2005, and let me see what it does to me...

Thanks. BTW, I looked up Vimshopak as per your advice. One

question: Parasara says that if it is below 5 or between 10 and

15, it is bad, but a figure of 5 - 10 or 15 - 20 is good. To

which Varga do you usually apply this? Shad or Sodasa, etc? BTW,

if a Graha gets 17 in Shad, but 12 in Shoda, what is its status?

 

Generally, how reliable have you found Vimshopak to be, overall?

And how much weightange should it be given in the general scheme

of things while analyzing a chart?
