Guest guest
I have not played around with it or local space astrology enough to form an opinion. Perhaps some of the western astrologers turned jyotishi might prove to be better resources for this fascinating area. Guest guest
Hello Inder ji, Almost missed this post! Cartography as you know is the craft of drawing maps. Astrocartography is the craft of redrawing maps in a way which superimposes the ecliptic (zodiac) and planets etc over the world map. It is almost like looking at your horoscope drawn over the map at the epoch of your birth and then utilizing the layout in your horoscope to determine which places in the world would be beneficial for you or not so beneficial. As a very rough example and utilizing jyotish terms, if your 10th lord is beneficially disposed and involved in a rajyoga, for instance, then at the epoch of your birth, the place where the 10th lord was prominent in the world (highest planet, in the meridian for instance), then that place will be very conducive for that rajyoga (and hence your career) to be expressed fully. That is one of the theories, expectations anyway. It is a lot more complex than that and similarly one could determine 'ideal' places for finding love, children, money, etc. Now mind you since the world has more oceans and lands, the high points may tend to fall on the ocean, but I suppose one could always join the navy to better one's prospects ;-) Seriously, though, it might be something interesting to look at. Michael Erlewine of Matrix (producer of many astrological software) was one of the pioneers of what he termed as "Local Space" astrology and a very nice book was written by Steven Cozzi (Planets in locality) which gives further insights and details. In some ways conceptually it is somewhat similar to vastu and feng shui, though applied on a global scale, literally. As an aside, Parashara Light in the newer versions incorporates a world map (similar to what is used by astrocartographers) dubbed as "change Location tool". The map shows the zodiacal lines on the world map and one can change the location of an epoch or birth and the chart moves for the location and lets one play around with the place where the 10th lord will culminate or join the ascendant (for the moment of birth) and so on. Not quite astrocartography but an interesting tool, none the less.
