Guest guest Posted May 21, 2005 Report Share Posted May 21, 2005 Dear hari For easy understanding, Ved Vyas has written the following: "Paropakaraya punyaya papaya parapeedanam" If you do good to others, it is punya (merit) If you do bad to others, it is sin (merit) In other words if you do good things to others so that they are happy and they get benefited by your acts, it would be termed as "upkar" and gets you punya. If you do bad things to others so that they suffer misery and sorrow at your hands, it is termed as "peedanam" and gets you paap (sin) Hope you are clarified.
