The first hour after sunrise is the hora(hour) of mercury. There is no need to look for muhurat for bringing the ring from the jewellers. It can be brought any time. But, before wearing the ring it should be purified. The purification process is as follows: On tuesday evening take a cup of ceramic or glass and pour two teaspoons of honey, unboiled milk and gangajal (even pure water will do). Mix the three liquids and dip the ring in the solution. Keep the cup in a clean and safe place. After rising before sunrise and taking bath, sit on a cotton asana (a cotton carpet or a folded bedsheet placed on ground), facing east. Place the cup with the ring before you and chant the budh mantra 108 times. The mantra is: "Om brum budhaaya namah". The 'm' in brum is pronounced like the 'm' in 'kamsa' (Kamsa, Krishna's enemy). After the chanting is over, wash the ring with water in another bowl and wear it. Pour the solution on the roots of a peepal tree. This purification should be done every one year keeping in mind the strong position of mercury in transit at the time of purification. Present transit of mercury is in virgo, its own sign and sign of exaltation too. Coming wednesday is suitable for wearing the emerald ring. I have told you the shortcut and effective method. In today's fast life, this will sufice. You can also wear an opal or a white sapphire, for venus, in silver ring on ring finger to compliment the effects of emerald. The opal is worn on friday morning. Only the mantra is different, procedure is similar. The emerald ring that you are wearing is not an ornament but a remedial measure. Wearing it is like taking a medicine at the right time. If it were an ornament only for beauty purposes, the considerations about pitra paksha would have been justified. About pitra paksha. It is region specific. It is a religious activity and in some parts of India, the pitra-paksha is observed during the fifteen days prior to navratras in march-april. All depends upon your beliefs and family traditions. If you are not able to wear the ring during pitra-paksha, the next suitable date is 12th october 2005 only. On 5th oct'05, mercury is not strong enough, it is changng signs from virgo to libra. I, personally, would still suggest coming wednesday as the ring-wearing day.
