It may be useful in studying calamities from classical texts like the great Brihat Samhita(Varaha Mihira), Rajatarangini(KalhaNa), Adbhuta Sagara(Ballala Sena) etc. URL: http://asc-india.org/maps/ancient.jpg Though it just shows the approximate regions, I feel there are many other versions placing ancient regions elsewhere too. Please refer to Chappan 56 desha before 12th century. It also to be noted that: 1. The neighbouring Afghan city of Kandahar used to be Gandhara 2.Burma(Myanmar) = Brahma desha 3.Combodia = Kambhoja(different from Kashmira region), where the great Ankor-Wat, the biggest Hindu temple is present! 4.Sri Lanka = SimhaLa(NOT lanka of RaavaNa) 5.Indonesia: RavaNa's Lanka Sumatra = perhaps SOUMITRA(after Laxmana, brother of Rama) Baali = VAALI dweepa(after Vali, who defeated RavaNa) 6. China = CheeNa, Cheena 7.Hun-Mongolia = HooNa desha 8.Rome - Romaka(perhaps Egyptian Rome) 9.Ion isles, Greece = YAVANA desha 10.Barbarian Europe = perhaps BARBARA desha (land of Kethu) 11. It is my guess that Caucasus must have been Kakutstha desha, well known at the age of Ramayana. 12. Germany = Sharma desha according to some. Hope this helps the needy.
