dear friend manoj

even though the scriptures prescribe janevu or sacred thread samskar

at the age of 8 years, it is no sin if one get it at a later date

but before marriage.

in the new world order where crores of arya samajis are chanting

gayatri mantra in loud speakers and casettes and CDs of all mantras

are played in houses, cars, restaurants etc., one may get a mantra

received from his own guru so that he would hear the pronounciation

correctly as advised by his guru. even though as per old orthodox

tradition, the father gives this sacred mantra as a secret in the

ear of his son, there is no sin if one chants this mantra without

upanayanam also. the world is changing and neither me nor anyone

can stop it. so the only best way is to accept the changed world

scenario but emphasis laid on maintaining the sanctity of these

mantras. recently i read in newspapers and tv that some girls in

karnataka fought against this male bias (in their language) and got

upanayanam done for them too and were displaying their janevu.

so the best way is to receive this holy mantra from your guru when

you cannot perform a ritual.

i am sure god will forgive me for straying from the old traditions

to help the modern man.

with best wishes

arjun

Dear Mr manoj,

The importance yajnopaveetam arises only in rituals and karma kandas and makes

you as a brahmin to perform as karta of rituals and others.

Now that you are married ,ther is no point of thinking bak of this issue at

this point of time.It is good that you are following a spirtual approach and

inclined towards poojas and worship.

The importance of Gaytri japam and Nitya parayana have been prescribed as

Brahmins are considered for promoting traditions, customs and values.whether in

to day's society permeats a logic(girls having janau etc) is just to disrespect

the orderliness of society,it is necessary to the person born in brahmin

community to value these principles, advise them for adherence and maintain these

values and promote to them.

May be today brahmins are opting for service and is not meant to forsake their

vidhi and kartvyam. In your case, you have opted for stay in a foreign country and

may be you have not followed. That does not mean you have lost or missed

something in life. After all father too has his responsibility to see that his

progeny too continues to maintain traditions.I fdilution in values are taking

place,we reconcile to them and want to be modern.May be the day we have no

priest, pandit and no traditions and cuastome and all become oriented in

materialistic way,may be we are indicating our helplessness.Sure changes do take

place in society. But changes that promotes the culture, tradition and values

should not be ignored. They have their role in the orderliness of

society.Performance of Samskaras are essential.Since you have brothers back at

home who can also performa along with you,let them take care of your feeling.you

are compensating for this in your way for promotions through your disciplined

way of living.Try always to respect and suggest and advice for adherence for

these customs to the extent possible.By mind be a brahmin and respect all

samskaras prescribed for brahmin.

if Gayantri mantram has become a duet song they may be adopting a sense to

promote it's importance(may be wrong).let's not worry as I seen in most soap

oeras vedis mantras and rituals are reciteds in interludes.Society's outlook for

promotions of these important mantras have found taste and may be by way of

approach to shout in loudspeakers gayatrimantras.let's be one to respect our

system as long as we can.Iam happy that my son who is in Us does performa

gayntri and pursued me for his janau though he married a jain girl
