Dear M Iyer

1. Guru: I used to teach investment analysis in the stock markets in the

top institutes in the country. There is a plethora of techniques to make

money in the markets. There are examples of Masters in virtually EACH of

these techniques. None is CORRECT on a theoretical basis. EVEN if someone

were to research to conclude that the largest segment of winners follow

style A, it wd mean damn-all practically. As it may not be right for u. So,

one has to find a personal path, ie a technique which one understands SO

well B'COS it is aligned to one's personality, not bcos it is the BEST,

whatever that means. This is not generic mumbo-jumbo. To elucidate, IF i

have tremendous patience, i shd follow value-investing. IF i am a cat in

understanding corporate strato, i shd follow growth investing. IF my mind

is tremendously flexible & can do flip-flops, i cd follow technical

analysis. So, it is not a simple process finding a path in any field. In

ANY field, 90% of the work is finding a personal path. Pl tk this

seriously. It took me MANY years to find MY path in investing. Many years

in Music also. Still feeling my way in astrology. Surely, there is a path

for you in yr chosen field of study (i dont want to comment on yr

personality & hence the type of astro-path for u, cos that is ONLY for YOU

to know & find out).

Basically what I am saying is: choosing/ being chosen by a Guru in ANY

field thru asking questions & not taking anything for granted is GREAT. But

the terms of reference are very personal. So the ALIGNMENT b/w u & the Guru

is the real issue/ question.

2. Fundamental qns, & WHY vs WHAT NEXT: The qns u r asking are fundamental,

but have NO answers. But they are NOT hi-funda qns, ie virtually all of us

hv asked these qns & continue to do so, & axepted that there are CURRENTLY

no answers to many of these. Lemme again take MY chosen field of expertise.

Does the FACT that I do not KNOW WHY the market or a stock has risen/

fallen/ done nothing instead of my expectations that it SHD do something,

stop me from ACTING on that information. Or knowing the art/ science of how

to act on that FACT. Listen, i am NOT being frivolous. I have made a deep

study of the stock markets, have virtually every classic ever printed

(hundreds in my lib, incl from the late 1800s), apart from engg & mba, hv a

separate splised aussie degree in invstmt ana per se (when i lived in

sydney), teach it, & am passionate about it. There is a whole science/ art

to knowing what to do vs Why, in ANY field. OK, take music. I KNOW that my

1 month old baby gets relieved of her colic when i sing particular tunes &

dance with her (usually at 3 am), i do NOT know WHY, but these particular

tunes Work. I know when i compose that certain tunes evoke some things.

Again, in my salad days i won virtually every amateur music competition in

this country, so am not being frivolous. I am NOT advocating incredulity &

blind faith either. Do u get what i am actually saying? The What Next & How

are different fields of study from the Why, tho well, it is obviously v

useful if one CAN know the Why also.

Must rush for a meeting. Have more to say on other related issues. must go.

bye

Gods bless

nandan
