Guest guest
Dear Visti, Thanks for your excel sheet on vargas, which you have uploaded recently. Many thanks for the many other tools you have provided earlier. In fact, these tools are more useful to me in understanding the concepts than computations! I do use them as supplements to JHL and they are pretty useful. The purpose of this mail is to learn about shastyamsas. You have given the names of deities for all the 60 amsas and they coincide with the list given in Sri G.C.Sharma's translation of BPHS. However, this list differs with the ones given by Pt. Sanjay Rath (in Vedic Remedies in Astrology) and by Dr B.V.Raman (in his A Manual of Hindu Astrolgy). The exact difference is in Amsa 42 (for odd signs), where they (Rath & Raman) considered 'Mukhya' and in Amsa 57 they have not considered 'Amrita'(also mentioned in BPHS as Sudha). Both the words 'Mukhya' & 'Amrita' do appear in Sanskrit version in their respective places. So it is only a matter of interpretation and who is(are) right is the question? Considering one Amsa at one place and ignoring the other one at another place changes the serial order of amsas between 42 & 57. I would like to know your considered opinion on this. Guest guest
Dear Viswanadham, Namaste. Thanx. I wasn't aware of any difference, and haven't studied the divisions of deities, enough to actually use them. I took the scheme from Santhanams edition. Raman and Rath were/are very good scholars, so i'm sure theres a good reason for using a different scheme of deities, but you'll have to ask Rath why theres a difference. Best wishes, Visti. p.s. please post his answer on the list, and i'll judge whether to change the scheme in my worksheet. --- vishwanatham wrote: > > Dear Visti, > > Thanks for your excel sheet on vargas, which you > have uploaded > recently.
