Guest guest
Dear All Just took a rejuvenating holiday. Having browsed thru VAIP & JUPS, finally mustered the courage to browse thru part of CoVA in this holiday. As the book has a multiplicity of rules mentioned almost in passing, & hidden inside the various case examples, rather than only in the theory sections of each chapter, I found it teeth-grinding to read. There were many seeming contradictions, which only a good astrologer can decipher from the context of the specific example. I dont want to confuse this List with my myriad questions, till I finish & re-read CoVA myself. But cd I crave the indulgence of the Masters here, for just a few (NB= Natural Benefic, aspg/ argg= aspecting/ argalaing, cnj= conjoin): 1. What is Ghatak Rasi (from the transiting Mn): pgs 145, 201, 245 2. Order of timing/ results from the three 1/3rds of a dasa (in BOTH Vim & Narayan, I presume). The orders are: a) Pg 233: i) Rasi, ii) Planets affecting Rasi, iii) its Lord (& planets affecting Ld). Qualifications: 1) among planets affecting same 1/3, NBs affect before NMs, 2) If dasa-rasi is prishto/ shirso/ ubhaya dayas, its effect is in last/ 1st/ midl rspcvly. BUT in the example on the same page, order is ii), iii), i), based on Aq being a mlfc syn (tho, being shirsodaya, it shd be 1st) b) Pg 157: (direction of travel from Narayan Dasa): i), iii), ii, both in the rule & example there. 3. Yoga planets giveng results: Yoga planets in houses 1/7/9 (elsewhere also 3) give yog results late in life, in 2= early. What about other houses? Also, there are natural maturation ages for various planets which modify the above, but my notes have age 16 for Jp (tho in CoVA's examples it says 30???), while in my notes, Ma is at 28 & Mc at 32. Note for benefit of other students on this List, that there are also separate maturation ages for various planets for Wealth/ Poverty in CoVA (pg 375 for the 9th house). 4. The planetary aspect of the 7th: True that 7 is Opposition, of the developmental Square aspects, in Wn astrology. Also, even in Indian astrology, 7 from a NB is a good aspect, but from an NM is a bad aspect. But ref the following: a) In the Chapter on the Lg in CoVA: Sn in/ aspg/ argg 1= good moral character/ happy disposition etc (obviously unless afflicted, when= bad for Sn-related diseases, pride, etc). OTOH: b) In pgs 254- 257 for the 7th house: virtually all NBs in 7 are good for the spouse/ marriage but BAD for the self, as 7 to it. And the Sn in 7 (as aps 1)= BAD character (opposite to Sn being IN Lg, ref the above, which is good character????). Which naturally brings me also to the next query: 5. St cnj a house/ ld= dec its longevity, but planetary-aspg them= increases its longevity, ref pg 428 CoVA (in a posting recently, Visti also uses this difference for Ve ASPG versus IN 12). Is there a generic rule to all this St/ Ve business (or Sn of previous query). Is this also true for sign-aspects: I dont think so, as it has never cropped up, but I may have missed it somewhere. 6. Many other queries, which I tried to reason using argalas on certain houses related to the case but failed, eg DP in 3/11 from AL= physical compatibility with partner, but bad for business prospects (why???) ref pg 253 CoVA. 7. Natural friendships of planets, with houses represented by their natural karakatwas: pg 235: bad effect of Mc on Mn as Mn v friendly to Mc, but Mc hates Mn. Pg: 167: Ve is natural enemy of Mn, so in 5, as is 2 from 4, is malefic to mom (4). But I thot Mn has no enemies while the enemy of both Mc & Ve is Mn. Also, what is the generic rules here? OTOH, in chapter on children, Jp's enemies are Mc/ Ve, so they hassle fertility etc. As Mc/ Ve's enemies are NOT Jp, this logic holds true to what I learnt, ie it does nto shake my foundations of natural friends/ enemies that we are tot in astro 101 in all books, as the first 2 cases shook these basics. 8. d-6: Just to sneak this in again, not from CoVA: a) Please ref JUPS 3.3.11 in particular, & a few shloks just prior to it: Comparing strength of syns to kill, in d-6 & d-11: In order of priority: a) Associated (mainly cnj) with benefics= weaker, while with malefics=stronger. b) nature of sign: C>S>D. c) Aspect of benefics reduces strength.BUT for choosing maraka-signs within trines (eg which among Trishul signs),order of priority is c, then b - But unclear whether it is c, b, a (as theNotes a few shloks prior, say Reverse) or a, then c, b, given shlok3.3.117.2. b) In d-6/11, ie Paryaya dasa, etc, Sign owned by Sthirkaraka doesn't killthat corr relative (shlok 3.3.122). Now, sign occupied by sthir karaka DOESkill, while that occupied by chara karaka averts death, as per all theShool Dasa rules. I know, one says owned, the other says occupied, but is this all correct? 9. In chapter on 2nd house: planets/ house in 4 (prob'ly as arg) from lord of 2 (prob'ly as maraka) are weakened, eg L2 in 3= enemy (6) destroyed. Why? L2 will also arg other planets/ houses in 2/4/11/5/8 from it (why only the 4th arg specifically: again, 4 is a development aspect by Wn astro, but is that what is being considered here?) Note to brother/ sister-students: Some very important basic rules (not the usual hi-funda stuff) were revealed in CoVA to me for the 1st time, eg a) significations of counting from house to lord & vice versa, tho recurs evrywhere, best explained in Chptr on 6th, & then 10th houses b) natural karakas (planets) of houses being in/ aspg/ argg its own (ie by karaka, not lordship) house, & other planets/ houses. Whew! What a study, ...... this subject called astrology .....
