Dear Gordon,

Yes, the actual basis of this techinique is the Hora.

 

Hora:

The word Hora, is derived from the word; Ahoratra, which means day and night.

You may reckognize that this is also the greek word for hour.

 

Now there are 24 Horas in a day, begining with the Hora lording the day.

 

i.e. Sunday, begins with the Suns Hora, and Monday begins with the Moons Hora.

 

However the sequence of the Horas isn't the same as that of the days. Its as follows:

 

Sequence:

Begining from the Sun-Earth; Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon.

Then from Saturn to Earth; Saturn, Jupiter, Mars.

 

Thus we have the sequence; Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter & Mars.

This sequence continues, reglularly, i.e. every 8th Hora will be the same.

 

Begining Day:

Now the first day of the week is Sunday, and lets start with the Sun on that day.

 

After counting 24 Horas, you'll find that the 25th Hora will be that of Moon,

hence Moon lords the next day.

 

Begining Hour:

Now here comes the big question.. when does it start?

Well we can't use Sunrise, as the time of Sunrise varies from day to day, and

hence we never complete the 24 Horas in a day.

 

Instead we need to select a certain time for begining the day, and let that time

begin the day, every day. This can easily be done by counting 60 Ghatis begining

with the desired time.

 

The reason for the various sunrise-times is because of the Earths tilt towards

the Sun, which due to its angle, gives different sunrise times.

 

Now of all these Sunrise times that happen on different times of the year, which to choose?

 

Sanjay Rath has had succes with using 6 AM LMT(Local Mean Time). Those who have

read the past SJVC-Newsletters and follow the discussions on SJVC, will know

this.

 

So why 6 AM? Or should i rather ask; when does the Sunrise become 6 AM, and why

was that Sunrise chosen?

 

Calculating LMT:

Its clear that we can't use actual sunrise for our calculations, so let me

explain how to calculate Local Mean Time, which you can use to adjust your

residence.

 

1. LMT is the actual time messured from your exact location. I would recommend

that you adjust it with reference to the place you meditate, do astrology, and

things like that. You can also adjust it with regards to your work place..

thats upto you to decide.

 

2. Take the Longitude of the place. Divide it by 15. And find the difference

between the result, and your Timezone.

 

 

Example: Longitude = 12:35, Timezone = +1 East of GMT.

 

Fraction: 12:35(Longitude) = > 12,58333(converted into decimals) => 12,58333/15

= 0,83888

Difference: 1 - 0,83888 = 1,16111 => 0,09666(Converted into hours i.e. 00:09:40).

 

So theres a difference of 0 hours, 9 minutes and 40 seconds, between the actual

place and the used Timzone.

Now we add the difference to the used timezone. I.e. when its 06:09:40 AM in the

used timezone, its 6:00:00 AM at the actual place.

 

This method can be used the same with both east and west from GMT.

 

Remember if your country is using DST, then you should add 1 Hour to the used timezone.

 

I recommend studying this calculation yourselves, that way you'll get more

aquanted to the movement of time.

in Saraveli, Kalyan Verma, also gives clues as to how to use this for

determining the lord of the month and of the year. Thats some more recommended

reading.

Using this method, one can acurately pinpoint the most auspicious times for performing activities.
