Guest guest
Respected friends, I have a query regarding religious ceremonies to be preformed before completion of one year of death ie.shraddha. I would be grateful if the learned members could throw some light on this and let me know if Shraddha rites are allowed to be conducted on a saturday and the astrological reason for the same. With regards, Jagmeet PS.I have been asked this question and am expected to give a reply as soon as possible.
Guest guest
Hi Jagmeet, The following is to the extent I know. Nearly every house has its own custom and thus, some of what is written below need not be applicable to all. I request the learned here to correct me in case of errors. The basic thing to be done before one year is completed is the 'maasika' shraddha (monthly). The reason for this comes from Garuda purana, preta kANDa, where it is said that the Jiva reaches different levels in its journey to the yamaloka, which takes one year to complete. It needs lots of things, 'tila' being most important. This mAsika shraddha should be done on the same tithi as the tithi of death. It might be difficult to get that time and resources every month, so the alternative is to do this kind of shrAddha while doing the 13th day function. 'Pinda' for all months are given and every month, 'sankalpashrAddha' is done, which takes around 20 mins. Apart from the mAsika shrAddha, 'dAna' can also be given. 'Go-dana' around the 5th month is considered good; it is said to mitigate some 'pApa' of the departed soul. kanyAdana is also good. weekday is no constraint. Saturday is no issue. However, one should not do shrAddha on Ekadasi. the reason: shrAddha is offering to your ancestors. They do not come personally to accept it, but representatives known as 'pitrudevatas' and 'vishvadevatas' do so. Since devatas also fast on ekadasi, shraaddha should not be done on that day. Hope this helps. Also, I think you should find someother list for more details on this question.
