Guest guest
Hello to all list members, I am new to this list, although I have been interested in vedic astrology for over a year. I have read several books and read articles from several websites. However, I feel that I still have a far, far way to go before I become adequately proficient in astrology. I have a question regarding Vargottama and its significance. In my Rasi, Jupiter is in Aries in eighth house. Jupiter is in Aries in all the divisional charts also. I understand that this is Vargottama. What I want to know is just what is the effect of Jupiter as Vargottama, and what is the effect of Jupiter being in the eighth house. Also, is Vargottama only due to a planet being in the same sign in both Rasi and Navamsa, or could it also be due to a planet being in the same house in Rasi and Navamsa. I am curious since I have Mercury in the first house in Rasi, Navamsa, D-1, D-2, D-3, D-4, D-9, D-10, D-20, and D-30. In the rest of the divisional charts, it is in 12th house except for D-60, where it is in 11th house. Mercury is with Moon in Virgo in Rasi, and by itself in Gemini in Navamsa. I recommend you to study Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra deeply, as well as other classics. I also recommend you to join the SJVC group where we have regular lessons on the foundation of Jyotish. > I have a question regarding Vargottama and its significance. Yes, technically if a planet is in the same sign in Rasi and Navamsa, it is called Vargottama. But benefic effect may only be expected if the planet is well disposed in the sign, i.e. not debilitated or in inimical sign. Otherwise the effect will be negative. This is precisely taken into consideration while calculating Amsa Bala and Vimsopaka Bala where only the benefic divisions are taken into cosideration while judging the divisions. And another peculiarity about the junction of Aries and Pisces. Because these are respectively fiery and watery sign, their junction point is a source of disturbance in the chart. This is called Gandanta. Judging by your statement, Jupiter is likely to be very close to 0 deg Aries. So if the Lagna or the Moon happen to be there, they produce Gandanta Dosa, and although this is not explicilty stated in the classics, I tend to think that any other planet situated there gets disturbed. Jupiter is especially peaceful in his own sign Pisces, so the heat of Aries is a bit too much for him, and he gets disturbed. So I think some remedies like mantras, etc. shou ld be applied to alleviate the possible disturbances of Jupiter in your case. Also because in rasi these signs become the 7th and 8th house, this would improve your health and longevity. > Also, is Vargottama only due to a planet being in the same sign in > both Rasi and Navamsa, or could it also be due to a planet being > in the same house in Rasi and Navamsa. This is interesting, and may have a certain implication, but a planet falling into tha same house in several divisions is not considered as vargottama or being in Vaisesikamsa. > Mercury is with Moon in Virgo in Rasi, and by itself in Gemini in > Navamsa. Mercury in own and exaltation signs is usually good, although he is subject to Kendradhipati dosha, so his benefic effects will be restricted unles he is conjoined or at least in parivartana with a trine lord. Conjoining the Moon in Lagna is good for communication skills that may bring gains to the native (Moon being lord of 11th). I hope this helps. Guest guest
Dear GP, I had posted a similar question to which Visti and others replied. Please read Message # 14363 and you will read Visti's response. Could you please tell me what is the position (longitude) of Mercury in your chart? I am just curious. Om.
